After playing in the Midlands Mosconi Cup (Great Event BTW.) i'm keen to know if anyone would consider setting up a scotch doubles tournament.
I think Scotch Doubles is a great format and really introduces a new dimension into the game along with a new added pressure as you're trying to play for you partner too.
Is anyone or has anyone explored the possibilites of setting up a comp of this nature?

Actually, I thought the Scotch Doubles at The Midlands Mosconi were great entertainment too!
It was nice to see players coaching each other, and even more fun watching quality players tweaking all over the place!
ENCORE!!!

Hear Hear to all that, it is one of my favourite formats and you really have to know your partners strengths and weaknesses. When we play Scotch doubles over here we use one male player and one female player as they do in the BCAPL Tournament in Las Vegas in May. BTW anyone know the reason for this being called SCOTCH doubles?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BTW anyone know the reason for this being called SCOTCH doubles? ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I investigated this last year and couldn't come to a satisfactory conclusion at all! I've submitted a question regarding this matter here: http://www.phrases.org.uk/bulletin_board/54/index.html... It should appear shortly and get some replies within a few hours apparently! i would love to play in a competition with a woman partnering me in scotch doubles. this would give the women the opportunity to compete with the top male players. there are a handfull of women players that can compete with the men in this country but maybe an event like this would encourage some more women to get involved.

In the BCA Pool Leagues Tournaments in Las Vegas this May there were 67 mixed pairs playing in the Master's Division and 437 mixed pairs in the Open Division. This format is popular across the pond.

I reckon it's 'cos in all the scottish clubs when 4 players turn up they are too tight to pay for 2 tables so came up with this format instead [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-06-04 08:41 ]
