Looks like it was a great tournament and the club looks absolutely fabulous. Nice to see Oscar over there, he is one of a number of up and coming players from Spain who if they could afford the expense could do well travelling to the UK etc. I will be publishing details soon of a big tournament in July which will be taking place in Oscar's home territory, Congratulations on the photos (Dave?) top quality.

A great discusion on this topic by the way.....some super ideas. Had a chat at the weekend to as many players as poss about they want etc etc, so got a really good impression from a full range of players. The event was superb.....best yet i think apart from the slight lack of entries. Venue was absolutely superb....couldnt have been any better and we will 100% be going back there in the future! Staff were excellent, and i would like to say a massive thankyou to Gus, the manager, for providing us with everything we needed. Great to see a new face winning too....infact this was the furthest any of the 4 semi finalist add reached in any EPT event so far, so i was very pleased with this....so well done to Jason Shaw, Carl Morris, Ricardo Jones, and obviously a very well done to Ben "ding" Davies! Our next event will be in Harrow on the 31st Mar/1st Apr where i am sure we could see a full field after last years turn out of over 100 players. I will be updating all of the EPT website for the rest of today so a busy one for me!.....never stops you know! Thanks, ----------------- [ This message was edited by: dazzler on 2007-02-05 11:03 ]

Just wanted to say this was another superb event at a fantastic venue. I know Rileys take a quite a bit of flack about the quality of their pool rooms but the Wavertree club is the best I have ever been to. Every table had a brand new cloth on and cushions reacted as they should. All they've got to do now is get the rest of their clubs up to this standard.
With regard to the tour and peoples suggestions about sponsorship, I think people are wanting to run before they can walk. First of all the tour needs to become established in the pool world. We need to decide which discipline to play, (The consensus this weekend seemed to be that 9 ball would attract a much larger field) and then we as pool players need to make a concerted effort to support the tour and promote it in our local clubs. In order for people to become excited about our sport they need to be aware of its existence.
Like any sport there are varying ability levels so the sooner the challenge tour is started the better. Perhaps a double elimination event that only costs £15 to enter and can be concluded in a single day thus eliminating hotel costs. You need to build up a base of players and the only way to do this is to make the sport affordable.
Anyway, well done once again Daryl and see you in Harrow.
Can't wait, it's going to be huge!!!

Great event, well run yet again. The club was fantastic (told you so Dazzler) and the facilities were great, I may even start practicing their. My only reservation about the tournament was the fact that the flyer was changed to 9 ball! This really disappointed me as this is an 8 ball tour and I decided not to play in the North West snooker championships which were also on the Sunday. Had I known that the flyer was 9 ball I wouldn't have come. There seemed to be a couple of players who had taken it upon themselves to change the event to 9 ball without much opposition from the tournament desk. What about tiddlewinks or snakes and ladders for the next flyer? [ This message was edited by: cusack_147 on 2007-02-05 13:26 ]

I agree that the flyer shouldn't have been changed. If you advertise an 8 ball event, you should run an 8 ball event. Having said that, I think for future events the flyer should be run as a 9 ball competition as it gives those who prefer 9 ball a chance to take part in the event.

Change it to 9 ball??? Theres plenty of 9 ball tours for people to play on!!! American 8 ball is much better game .... a lot less luck involved. Oh yeah ......... GET IN THERE DINGY SON!!! i agree, one of the main attractions about the EPT is that its 8-ball, we have the BPPPA for 9-ball. 8-ball won't die off just because the IPT buggered things up. Remember when we only had 9-ball to play at a national level, people were screaming for the odd 8-ball comp as it offers something different, we now have that, yet some people still don't seem happy. 8-ball could be one way that we can get new people into American pool as the rules aren't that different to world rules for UK 8-ball so the transition should be too taxing. Admittedly, there are improvements which the BPPPA can take on board about the way a tournament is run but i'm sure they're constantly looking at ways to improve things. Daryl, given the lower than hoped for turn-out, if low numbers continue, how does this affect next season's changes (i.e. the two tier tour) [ This message was edited by: lancaster_bomber on 2007-02-05 15:04 ]

Mark Mills was in charge of the flyer as i was playing in the main event. A couple of players came to me and asked if we could do the flyer as a 9ball event, I told Mark that if nobady objected then it would be ok.....but if 1 player didnt want the 9ball then it would be 8ball....full stop. That was his instructions from me so i take it that nobady objected. -----------------
