danny this isnt a personal attack on you but the only reason why your so happy about it is you live in manchester so you wont need a hotel or hardly any expenses.
I was going to join the bpppa as a member this year and another m8 of mine was too but now we wont be as it will cost us alot more than it would of to gain expeirence playing at that level we will still go to a few but not all.
I understand why this has to be done i have read ted's comments but i feel this change will discourage new people paying for membership and joining this year and seems a big step back imo
I also live in Bristol and shoot with jon and completely agree with him, the way it used to be i felt gave an equal chance for everybody to go to local-ish event now with them all being in manchester (minus 1 or 2)it means an extra day travelling and alot more to expenses
Just my opinion.

No, but it isn't.. moaning isn't fun.
You all think you deserve to live the high life, automatically just because you are on a professional tour!
You won't be happy until you get a minimum of £5000 for just turning up, and until the BPPPA pays your expenses. And even then that won't be enough.
In everything there is always something you can improve I agree!
Take a leaf out of the book of the people who are earning their living from playing pool.
Get to every event. If you can't afford to travel, work extra hours so you can. Or make it your goal to find somebody to share petrol with and share a hotel room with.
You lot just moaning like old women is monotonous.

And that is rubbish, about me being happy because it's in Manchester.

I must say you've got a way with words Danny. Every time you post you start insulting people. You're not doing the BPPPA any favours by taking this tone.

Cheap hotels:
The Grafton - £35 per night Imperial - £43 per night
There are also places just outside the centre, on a £3 metrolink ride which should be even cheaper if booked in advance.

And what's your suggested solution RackRunner? Remembering the tour is scheduled to start this weekend?

Riggers
Haven't really got a solution just thought i would express my feelings on the issue..i agree that a tour just in manchester is better than no tour all together.
Obvioulsy ted has done his best to keep the tour running and the ideal solution would be that riley's wouldn't be losing so much money they have to cut costs and therfore keep sponsoring the tour.
I wanted to join the tour and gain valuable experience playing at a higher level but for me to go to every tour event it would be roughly £200 each event(travel, 2 nights in hotel, entry and food etc) thats £2000 a year plus 160 for membership its alot of money to gain experience.

I'm with rackrunner on this one, better to have a tour in manchester than nothing at all, although the expense will put some people off. The sort of people which it will put off will be players like me who want to play for the experience initially. I am perhaps the exception because i will still be playing as many tournaments as possible (money and work depending) even though i know realistically i have very little chance of winning many matches let alone tournaments (see results from guildford and stafford for evidence!). Could this ruin the future of the game in this country? Perhaps it would be an idea to have alternative tournaments restricting entry only to players outside the top 50 with entry a lot cheaper for members and non members. This would allow more casual club players to enter tournaments and would ultimately get more people playing the game which is what is needed long term. Todays beginners are tomorrows experienced players?

Todays beginners are tomorrows experienced players? Wise words...choppers are the way forward!!! PS: The APN leagues are a good place for today's beginners before they step up to the BPPPA. Let's hope it's not a reverse trend because of costs - BPPPA to APN? [ This message was edited by: expertfluke on 2006-11-15 17:24 ]

The problem for most players is the fact that in previous years, the tournaments have been spread around the Country meaning that for certain events, players need not stay in hotels.
If 5 out of 10 events were in a comfortable driving distance, you would probably save around £5-600 on hotel costs alone.
The grievance players (Southerly) have is the fact that now with all the tournaments being in Manchester, hotel bills will be being paid every event.
I certainly don't mind travelling all over the Country with a wide spread of tournaments, at least I know a few events I wouldn't have to be forking out hotel costs for.
But unfortunately with the current situation, many players cannot justify spending an extra £5-600 on hotels.
I wish Ted the best of luck with resolving the current situation.

Welcome to my world (plus anyone else from Leeds and the North of England!).
I have to pay for a hotel at EVERY event, but still I'm able to make it to pretty much every ranking tournament. Why, because I love playing.
Simple, if you love the game, you'll find a way. If you don't, then that's your decision. We are in a difficult period for the tour, get behind it and stop moaning.
(before anyone says it's ok for Si, he lives in Leeds, I would still be travelling to EVERY event, paying for my hotel, even if they were situated all over the country. As does Daryl, Diamond, Riggers, Cowie, Adam, Chris, Andy Worthington etc etc)

On 2006-11-14 12:37 , Riggers Wrote:!!! QUOTE !!! I think the southerners should remember they've had it much better than us northerners in previous years.
For example, if you lived in London last year, attended all 13 events and booked a hotel if over 100 miles away you would have travelled 1431 miles, which is an average of 110 miles per event and booked 6 hotels.
For Dazzler in Blackpool you would have travelled 2392 miles, which is an average of 184 miles per event and booked 10 hotels.
If all 13 events this year are in Manchester (I know they won't be but just suppose they are) the Londoner will travel an average of 199 miles and book 12 hotels - not much more than Dazzler last year.
But I think "Dazzler" has a slightly higher chance of recooping some of the cash he pays to get there with his winnings from the thing lol [ This message was edited by: Luke on 2006-11-16 02:53 ]

If you love pool. You'll do anything for it. There's lot worse places to put money.

Train fare from Bristol is £57. 2 nights Travel inn £110. Taxi from to hotel to club inc tip £10. each time. Other taxis here and there! This is what I have paid every time I have been to Manchester! I am not taking a chance on staying in a roach pit!(do you know who I am) And incidently, I am trying to prepare for a pro pool comp! I'm not coming up on a stag weekend or to watch football etc! Get real! -----------------

Nobody wishes ill of the Tour and a Tour is better than no Tour and I agree with Buckster in wishing the Tour and Ted best of luck.
But regardless of Love of the Game, Pool or anything for that matter comes after paying the mortgage and family. Especially when, you have choice (EPT, Mickeys, Eurotour). By car the BPPPA tour of Manchester will cost me approx £3000-3200 ( By Train (for Danny's benefit) £2500-£2600), I can do the EPT and Mickeys for half that. It's a complete no brainer. That leaves the option of playing a couple of events at the non-memebership costs, but why when you can go to Prague or Malaga etc for the same costs. Eurotour Event wherever for the same costs as a weekend in a Rileys in STRETFORD!! another No brainer Imo.
Ultimately the BPPPA is a product and we are customers, and the product it is trying sell to SOME of its customers is not a viable one while it is to some of the rest of you.
