Hi, Surely there's more to be being "England's best 9 ball player" than just being a gambler. Imran, Daryl and Raj have all had much better tournament results than Darren and Steve Knight has had great tournament results and was a very successful money player too.

I don't see there being one player who is miles ahead of the others (the others being the other top 9-ball players in the UK), I think we have a selection of top players who can beat each other. We probably have about 6 players who can be called the best 9-ball player in the UK at any one time. ----------------- Chris @ Pro9[ This message was edited by: Buckster_uk on 2007-03-25 12:27 ]

Rider must have been one of the best UK players, he was good in this country but also had respect all over world. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: PC on 2007-03-25 12:35 ]

I think shooters post was bang on regarding the pockets...too much talk is about pocket sizes i guess, maybe because essentially we are a snooker player nation and we have players playing 9ball now like Paddy, Gray, and myself who are all maxi men at snooker (or at least was lol)....then we have tonnes of players who have made loads of big centuries....Andy Worthington made a 142 last week in 1frame snooker match for his team! So i think this is why most of us look at the 9ball pockets this way.....but as Shooter says you dont become a great 9ball player by been a potting machine....its all about knowledge and bottle! -----------------

rider was probably the best all-rounder, and lee tucker who i would say had the most knowledge of everyone
i remember when i started out, players like:
daryl peach(still going strong) andy richardson anthony ginn kevin smith tom gilvarry
just to name a few
what an era that was on dougs tour, who ever won a ranking event fully deserved too

Hi, Good to see indiana mention Lee Tucker. I'm a big fan too. I've got a match from 1993 in which he annihilates Allison Fisher. It was the European Pool Masters in Plymouth. The first Matchroom Sport pool event I think. A lot of the other players in it were English pool specialists but it's great for a blast from the past. Werner Duregger from Austria won it which is very impressive considering who else was there- Ralf Souquet, Tom Storm, Steve Davis, Jimmy White, Lee (obviously), Ross McInness etc. The relevance/link is that Tommy Donlon was there too!! By the way, getting this thread back on topic (almost anyway!), has everyone seen the comedy "9 ball winners" photo montage on the EPC site? If you go the main page you'll see that they have photos of all of the 9 ball winners with the names of the 8 ball winners underneath!!

For Obvious reasons i say myself.....especially if its 9, 8 and straight! But if i had to nominate another player for 9ball it would have to be The Rider! As Sam-betfair said, top talent and also a great 8ball player too......but not so hot at straight pool even by his own admision....when Andy Richardson, Steve knight, and myself represented Great Britain in the European champs a few years ago we won a bronze in the team event, but Steve refused to play the Straight pool disciplin. Im sure if he ahd wanted to he could have improved quite a bit though. -----------------

i know what i can do in the game in years to come and time will tell!! Hi, I know you've won a lot of 8 ball titles but Boyzi said you were the best English 9 ball player- not all round pool player or anything else. Specifically a 9 ball player. Who knows as you say you may win loads of 9 ball titles in the future but there are other English players who have won much more than you so far. That's not an insult or anything else- just the facts. By the way I wasn't saying you were just a money player. Boyzi said you were the best English 9 ball player and did anyone want to gamble with you. In my post I was saying that that wasn't enough of a reason for you to be called the best 9 baller in England- you had to win tournaments too or else you could only be the best 9 ball money player couldn't you. I was replying to that post so if you re-read that you'll see what I meant. Chris. EDIT: I'm still not making this clear am I!! I thought that Boyzi was suggesting that as you would take on anyone in money matches that made you the best English 9 ball player. I was saying that in my opinion the best English 9 ball player has to win tournaments not just money matches. It was a general comment about what I thought the best English 9 baller had to be. Hope that finally clears my original post up!! [ This message was edited by: Chrstc on 2007-03-25 21:54 ]

haha yes i know what your saying pal
no hard feelings at all i thought you was saying am just a good gambler but cant pot 2 balls together in tournies haha which is true sometimes!
but i know what you mean but if boyzi thinks am the best then thats his opinion..
we are all entitled to them and i respect yours
am sure if i play more bppa events which i hope to now its picking it ill be very hard to beat ..
i have respect for all top uk players boyzi, dazzler, imran, raj, mark etc and there hard to beat ..but the good thing now the standards getting better and its certainly better than what it was in the past ..
but like i said i understand what your saying!

Honestly, my attitude to my pool career has change over recent times.....i have other things on the go now in order to secure a good future for my family and myself, so my pool playing is taking a sort of "back seat"....therefore i am not traveling to as many overseas events as i might have been a couple of years ago.....dont get me wrong, if the IPT gets back on track then i would be putting the hours in as the rewards would be very much worth the effort. Dont get me wrong though, i am still up there but players like Daz Appleton and Imran Majid are more focussed on pool than i am right now....even though it would be hard to call a winner between us right now. Imran has the experience over Daz, but daz has the determination of a player more than any other i have ever seen.....add to this his undoubtable talent and i truely think that he could be the player to beat in a year or so. Like he says the money isnt too good in UK at the moment so this makes top players like himself travel to earn a living. Add to this he is a top fella too....and a bit like myself in some ways as he says what he feels even if sometimes it doesnt keep him in favour with certain people....and under no circumstances will there be any a55 lickin to get to where he wants to get! My kind a pal. I think between Imran and Daz if the balls are tapped then i have to give Daz the edge, if they are NOT tapped then Imran is far out in front. Even though in the past Imran and myself didnt see eye to eye, we have become mates and i have a lot of time for him these days.....the main reason for this i think is because we now respect each others game.....we have grown up a bit basically lol. In a nutshell: best player from the past Steve Knight. best player for the future Daz Applerton/Imran Majid/Daryl Peach. best overall player past and present Daryl Peach. The reason i put my self in the last catorgary is because i am the only player that has been in the top3 UK players for the past 10years....players have come and gone but the Dazzler is still there and he wont be going anywhere for a while yet! lol Im not boasting coz thats not my style, just offering my opinion. ----------------- [ This message was edited by: dazzler on 2007-03-26 14:11 ]
