Nice to see some loyalty from them, eh? It's a shame that so many events clash but dates are definitely limited. I think what should happen is the WPA should allocate "continental" tour dates (Euro, Asia, US Tours) so that they all fall on the same wkend. That way each tour can plan in advance (1 or 2yrs) and then all other open events or tours can work from there. The very big problem worldwide for pool is that the calendar is only planned a few months or curent year in advance, the calendar should be rolling forward each month (eg dates for Aug 2008 in now). Just my opinion. I for one will be attending the Fistful of Dollars event if it goes ahead. I reckon a (web based) worldwide calendar of events with small amount (say £20 per event) to be lisetd on it would help all this.....BigDave, (any thoughts on a seperate thread)?

I was thinking the same devil.. about a seperate web based calendar...
major and minor events having different prices to pay to list their events.
at least a european calendar anyway.

I have my doubts about this proposed new tour, but I'll remain open minded about it for now.

@ Malaguista:
The Open Weert tournament is for the 9th consecutive year in the last weekend of January! And i am paying the 200 euro's for 9 years now, so don't think i am not awear of that. And Gareth should now that, he even played in it... But he has a fist full of dollars and a nice sponsor and probably don't care about other peoples respected and long running tournaments. I informed Gre earlier this year to put the Open Weert on the Calendar, but he told me he could not give me green light and confirm it, because of the World Tour and European masters. My date is on the website www.openweert.com also for several months now...
MH HOB Weert
Maurice, My comments were not meant to be taken as an attack on you, the HOB or the annual tournament but were simply to illustrate the fact that organisers planning tournaments need to be able to check that their dates won't clash. I assume that Gareth checked the EPBF website in advance and didn't see your event advertised and I give him the benefit of the doubt if he says that he had forgotten about the HOB Tournament. I know that your tournament has been running successfully for a number of years but the dates still need to be publicised as far in advance as possible. It is a "shame" that the EPBF wouldn't allow your event to be shown on their calendar and this highlights even more the need for an independent and impartial calendar. Independant calendar.. I'm willing to put in the leg work, if some respectable members of the pooling community were to help me.

With regard to a calender of international pool events, we have that here on Pro-9. It is just a case of getting international bodies such as EPBF to advise Pro9 of their events as early as possible ! Perhaps somebody with influence in these circles can make some ground? What about the safetly shot? Or what if you deliberately pot the ball on into a non-obvious pocket (e.g. bank it) without calling it so you can lose your turn and gain an advantage. For example, the 2 ball is completely surrounded by several balls at the other end of the table and you pot the one in the way I just described. Then you can walk away from the table leaving your opponent completely shafted. Hardly fair! There is a neat solution available to stop this. Introduce a rule whereby if you fluke the ball on or pot it after calling safety the incoming player has the option to play the shot or make you play again. You could even extend this so it applies after any fluke e.g. you miss the pot on the 1 and manage to knock the 6 in. Then your opponent would put you back in if you had left them hooked on the 1. Obviously the problem with this is that you are now getting into major deviations from the standardised rules and I'm not sure that's a good thing. Your call but if I were you I would leave the rules as they are.

I c your point riggers, but after speaking with all the senior players such as peach drago souquet majid, they all want this, even comments to the extent as this has been needed for the past 10 years.

I agree, but have *they* thought about this aspect of it? Have they ever actually played these games as 'call shot'? It does bring complications and they can't be ignored in my opinion otherwise there will be arguments. So, what will your ruling be in the scenario I described? They bank the 1 without calling it and you strongly suspect they did it on purpose because the next player is now hooked on the 2. What would you do?

Very diplomatic answer Gareth! Admit it, you hadn't thought about the potential problems with call shot had you? [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2007-08-06 11:01 ]

I see absolutly no issues with the format, rules, and the type of competition that we are putting together. I have had indepth talks with the top players in this regard and it really is all self explanitory stuff. I wouldnt put an announcement out like that without consulting the (Big boys) and thinking it through. Nothing to admit and certainly not worrying. And as i said all to be revealed in due course.
