Here's a local tube map, as you can see Southfields is on the green District Line - towards Wimbledon. [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2007-05-11 22:07 ]

I phoned up the club to try and register and they said that I either need to pay at the club before the event or pay at my local Rileys.
I can't understand why you cannot just put your name down and pay on the day?
Did anyone else get this response? I find it really odd.

I booked via local club but according to flyer it says "contact Sarah Brady at Rileys Southfields on 02088740499 to book an entry - now."

I think that by having us pay in advance, Rileys will be better able to project neccesary funds based on confirmed and paid entrants to even- out the guaranteed payouts being advertized. Also, players in the past have been known to get their names placed on a comp, then not showup the day of the event, or pull out last minute, thereby off-setting payouts. I maybe wrong on both points...either way, I'll be there.

I called Sarah, you can pay on day but it's clearly better to pay in advance to make sure you get a place. She has a list of Rileys in London where you can pay. Basically clubs within the M25 - Victoria and Watford etc It would make sense for us 9-ballers to support this 'Rileys' event. Then it might lead to other things..... Yep there are streets around the club where you can park for free, it is just a case of finding a space

Although I'm always pessimistic, there DOES seem to be a good response to this event - a lot of people I'm meeting are going - does anyone have precise numbers?

Would be interesting to know. There's a couple of us coming from St Albans.
I hear Imran Majid and Rico Diks will there....so no favourites at the minute then?

I am getting worried as I haven't bothered to pay in advance, there is no limit to the number of players is there? Anyone could pay on the day?

Just checked the flyer again. There isn't an entry limit, it just says 'prize money subject to 128 entries'.
Anyway, if they get more than 128 entries for this I'll pay the prize money out myself!!!
.....obviously I'm joking about paying the prize money but you get my point.

I wouldn't be surprised to see loads of english 8 ballers come out of the woodwork for this 1. Its been better advertised round all of the rileys round here than the BPPPA has cumulatively over the last 2 years. For the sake of £20 I expect there's gonna be loads of them and maybe some snooker players thinkin its worth a pop. Plus being in london and single day event its local for a very large amount of players he wuldn't be bothered to travel for a BPPPA or EPT event.
Just my 2p's worth

Joma - they still do the 9-ball comps on sundays. It's every two weeks. Best to speak to St Albans Rileys and ask for Larry. As for tomorrow. The only concern is how are they going to play all the matches even though they are up to 5? Say its 100 players - 12 tables. Still a lot to get through. But looking forward to it regardless.
