But you'd play in a qualifier wouldn't you? :D

From what I hear there will be an interesting format for this tournament,

Winner of lag in each round will choose to play 8 Ball, 9 Ball or 10 Ball.
With races up to 21 in 9 Ball or 10 Ball and 15 in 8 ball, This will sort out the men from the boys!

That's the most stupid format I ever heard. A better idea is to play best of 3 sets with a different discipline each set. Then maybe the winner of the lag each chooses the discipline and has choice to break. Now that sounds like a good format!

I think that the use of the word stupid is a bit strong
A couple of years ago, nobody in the UK wanted to play 8 Ball and they probably had never heard of 10 Ball.
There is nothing wrong with new ideas, if you don't like this one why don't you organise one based on your own ideas?
At the end of the day, the potential players will decide if they like the format or not.

I heard from the grapevine...

The event will be in the South of England!
The lag will be best of 5 NOT 1 lag!

I stand by what I said, I could use a different word if necessary but I think the proposed format whereby the lag determines the game you play is plain silly. And like you say the potential players will decide if the like the format - as a potential player I don't like the proposed format!

I heard too that it would be the best of five lags but at the end of the day the winner decides the game and if there are enough players who are happy with the format, there will be a tournament.
With regard to the comment someone made about the length of an 8 ball game, remember that in the Grand Masters there were games that ran to over 50 racks.

i heard there's no 8 ball, 9 ball or 10 ball involved, its a comp based on lagging only....

Can just hear the conversation after the lag...

'Ok you win the lag. What game do you want to play?'
'I'm just happy to carry on lagging thanks. Best of 50?'

:D

Can't wait for this!

shall we just wait and see fellas....

throw some people a line and they always bite! lol

good to hear that people are talking about running events like this, why the the devils playground not? if it goes ahead then all credit to you Gareth....

whatever that format will be, we all know it will make for great entertainment! which is what we all want as a spectator - and to be fair, as a potential player i think it would be really exciting.

can you imagine watching 2 top class players lagging best of 5 and then waiting to see which discipline they choose to play - That is wicked!

some people say stupid - i say GENIUS!

just look at the discussion its created - imagine the atmosphere on the day!!! lol :)

Hope the comp goes ahead, should be a good one!

I love the idea.

People might not like the idea of that format for such a high entry fee, but you should be able to play all forms of pool if you are entering a tournament that big.

I would love to play in a tournament like that, it would be great!

I think the idea sounds good as it will give players the chance to show they are the best all round player.........i think maybe just to add a bit to it that if say there are only 3 choice 8 9 or 10 that if you win a lag and choose say 8 then the next lag you win you have to choose 9 or ten then on the next lag you have all 3 choices again....this would hopefully force people to play all the games, and get the feel for who really is an all round cue artist...........surely Daz and Boyzi have to be the massive favourites here.

Maybe one pocket could be an option too lol

Good call PC. Unlike what some have said the fact is that if the lag determines the game played the winner will not necessarily be the best all round player - just the person who has the best lag because they then choose their favourite game. Much better to play several games and use the lag to decicde which order they are played in.

Calming down a bit now Riggers LOL

Maybe all potential players should now practice their lagging as it is going to be all important.

For top players this type of tournament shouldn't be a problem, as we saw in the Grand Masters there are many 8 Ball experts around and it is a fact that all of these are also good 9 ball players, the unknown for me is 10 Ball as it is rarely played over here (UK or Spain)

Lets add straight pool too.......then we will get the best all round player!

Then we also have bank pool and one pocket.....

.....9ball and 10ball are too similar....only the break seperates them.
