for what my opinions worth i kinda expected low entires...
i personally think some of the value as gone out of the tour with higher entry fee and less prize fund top end..
i think everything was good last year and if it was kept the same the numbers would have increased for this year for sure, and the likes of pat holtz, mckenna, tim singh, barnett, dave wright, nick wollerton and many more would be playing am sure.
i hope am wrong though and more players show there support in harrow and the tour grows!

For me playing the EPT is about the atmosphere mixing it up with the best pool players from the UK and Europe and with there being only 69 runners this time can only be down to players lack of funds as it was last year at manchester and then after that you get players like Ronnie O'Sullivan, Tony Drago and Nick Van Den Berg coming to Harrow and Solihull and creating an electic atmosphere i can personally say when Ronnie turned up the hairs on the back of my neck stood up it was awesome and getting to see him play and thinking about the young lad who had to play him bet he had "the" best day of his life that day would like to know what he thought of playing Ronnie bet he didn't care just think to all you new players who want to play against the best then come and play on the EPT its the best 8ball tour in Britain.
If i should get thru my prelim which i will be trying my level best to get thru with a huge incentive of playing one of England's greatest cueists in Darren Appleton i would love to play him and you get this chance if you compete in the Empire Pool Tour which Mark Segal and Daryl Peach have worked so hard to bring us.
Maybe i love the game too much but at least someone is trying to provide a competitive tour for all you wannabe pool and professional pool players.
Give the EPT a chance and stop being over critical of the poor turnout it will a great event and look at the quality of the field bar me all of them capable of doing well.
Good Luck everyone this weekend and long live the EPT!!
Thanks to Daryl and Mark for making this possible for me and others to compete against the best!!

i run a tour few years ago daryl with guaranteed prize fund first year was good then i changed a few things ie higher entry fee it ended up costing me 4k from my own pocket i didnt get the support from the players and around the time there was too many tournies english pool and somebody else decided to run a amatuer tour in same area same venues which affected my tour and i ended up scrapping it... maybe the introduction of other tours as affected ept again hope am wrong pal!
but it would be a shame if this tour went the same way as mine coz this tours like you say very well run and very professional..

All I am saying on the matter is, I am going to play 9ball on the Eurotour in Prague this month and it has cost me my budget. I very much prefer 9ball so really there is no contest. Having said this I will be attending future EPT events, when my budget allows. Good luck with it anyway boys! Jon. -----------------

sorry i couldnt get there Daryl, i was doubtful when i called you, but i have my workers who have families, and they rely on me, as i do them to earn me a living, if i could have got them to work and got up to liverpool in time i would have, harrow is only 45 mins away but liverpool is a long train ride and there isnt enough time. Just a matter of interest reading the posts, how many from london area are coming? and how many from the north will be coming to harrow, could be something to keep in mind.

i agree with Dynamite, think a lot of the value has gone with the increased entry fee and the new prize structure. I for one would much rather have to win one extra match to get to the last 16 for £250 than the new system. just my humble opinion.

Actually, I'd be over the moon to recoup my entry fee for winning a single match.
I also heard someone say that because the rankings were best 5 of 7, they felt they could afford to drop an event.
I reckon Harrow etcetera will be flooded.

I will be making my first EPT appearance at Harrow!
Looking forward to it, can't do any events up north these days as from Portland it would take a week!!!
I think the EPT are doing a good job but pool players are born moaners so are never quite happy - just give things time and support and I think you will see this going places (hopefully places down south!!!)

i cant believe that just because people dont enter an event everyone on here starts slagging them off saying we are not doers we have let you down
look lets get a few things right i didnt enter due to what i have previously said its 8 ball its now a waste of time. i have entered one EPT event and spent £90 to pull dazzler in round one well that was worth while NOT also i am not a pro pool player i have a job if you want to say i am not a doer come and look at the company i started from scratch. i go to all bpppa events but when people dont show for them events its all poor teds fault even when he is in hospital but when we dont enter this its cause we are all a waste of space. if its losing money guess what businesses do. you have to know about supply and demand when people saw the IPT as a way of making a living your demand is high but when that goes and 9 ball is back to being the dominate game and there is an event next week some people have to make a choice cause they dont play pool every weekend and entry fees are not tax right offs.

I've entered every EPT event to date and though I've not had much success I feel my game is improving all the time. However, £90 + expenses is serious money for an 'average player' to fork out for a single elimination event. The last 2 events running I've drawn Mark Gray in the first or second round. With the quality of the field like it is there is a very good chance us average players are going to get a draw like that. It doesn't bother me because I want to play the best and before long I will give one of them a good hiding but I don't suppose everyone will see it that way, especially when there are long distances to travel and the expenses start to mount up. So I can see why some people don't feel they are getting good value. I think the 2 division format may work well in Europe where there is huge support for events but in the UK I don't see how this can work. The challenge tour will be too small and the main tour will still have 'average players' who could find themselves constantly getting a really tough first round draw. Personally I'd rather see races to 8 and double elimination. Then I'd feel like I'm getting better value. But I'll still support the events no matter what the format so long as I can afford to. Yep, I have a tough first match against a good english pool player now playing American Pool and if I win that I have to beat Mark to cover my entry fee. Then I have to win the next one to cover my expenses. Like I say, not a problem for me as it's all good experience but I can appreciate why some would not be up for that.
