Spoke to Tony and Darren after their wins....Darren said he played ok but there is room for improvment.
TING home crowd which was a packed arena.
The errors that were made by both players just added to the atmosphere....excelent match for pool.

Just wait till you see the 9ball that efren misses at 7-7!!!

Oh nearly forgot, i beat Rob Saez (usa) 8-6 tonight so i hope you guys had a few quid on!! lol

Yeah Tony told me the atmosphere was like nothing he had experienced before.

Good job Daryl, keep it up!

Hello,
I agree with the earlier post about the commentators mentioning the results of the other games in advance and even showing the tables so we knew the exact rack scores! I do take the point about the live commentary but perhaps ESPN should tell their commentators to avoid doing that and spoiling things for the global audience. However what annoys me most about the commentary is that awful Chuck guy who ESPN first used last year. He is terrible- talking about the distance between balls as "a lot of green" when they're playing on blue Simonis or, worse still, talking about "miscues" when a player just misses a pot! Why is Jim Wych here and not commentating? I thought Kim Davenport would have been a dead-cert to be hired again as expert summariser too. He adds a lot of class to the proceedings IMHO.
Looking forward to some real big name clashes on the TV tables soon. Most of the ones today were reasonable matches but not 1st seed vs 2nd seed in a group. I hope they actually feature Corey Deuel a bit more often this year too.
The standout results for me were Rodney Morris and Radoslaw Babica getting thrashed and Earl Strickland losing to Vincent Facquet. Wow!

Thanks,
Chris.

I would think that he is going to be closing in on possible bans from future events for his behaviour lol!

I won't be putting any results up as Daryl is doing a good enough job in that department.
I thought I would mention that the venue is suberb with loads of space and a good crowd of fans which obviously swells whenever "God" Efren or another of the top Philippinos are around. It is interesting when you talk to locals and you tell them thaht you are here for the WPC, they know nothing about pool but they all know of "Bata Reyes" who is a national hero.
The city of Manila is one of extremes, some of us are staying in magnificent 5* hotels with all the creature comforts that you could wish for and it is all too easy to forget that in the streets outside, there are families living without shelter and scraping together what food they can.
I was talking to a shopgirl yesterday who told me that she can earn around $7 a day if she is lucky, that, of course goes further than it would do in any western country but it is barely enough to live on here and there are many who are much worse off.
That is the depressing side of Manila, here a a couple of photos to show the other side,

Great photo's Peter!!

I just lost 8-7, he fluked the 9ball and then broke and dished at 7-7!!!

Kev losted 8-6 to De Luna, he said he made a few mistakes......he said he had his chances and didnt take em.

Not sure how Imran went on....he was 5-5 when i left.

Apparently, Raj has some sort of problem with his neck and he aint sure if he is gonna compete!!.....only time will tell as his first match is due today.
