Blackref - Im sure all intentions are good mate, but it would be really good to get some more details about you and what your plans are for the APN etc. As far as i was aware the APN had folded and all the current leagues were simply being run independantly by the respective clubs.
If you could announce officially whats going on as you seem to be hurrying people for information for something that nobody knows about?? lol
Love to play - Just wanna know whats going on please. As do a few others no doubt.
if you have indeed taken over the APN - congratulations!!, i think this set up has MASSIVE potential with the buy in the clubs up and down the land have shown.
Cheers

Hi All-I haven't mentioned this before but with renewed interest in the former APN leagues I felt it would be a good time to tell you all what we have been upto down here in Bournemouth. After the collapse of the APN I started up a new format league with a new handicap system and we are now rapidly approaching the end of a very successful first season. We have now secured a cue manufacturer to sponsor the second season, which promises to be bigger and better than the first. I don't know what other leagues have been upto, but if anyone is interested in running a league under the new format, to help re-establish what the APN was trying to do, please pm me.
And it is probably a good time to mention that, to help promote the new league, we are planning a Bournemouth Open sometime in September. Details to follow.

Oz I'd certainly echo those sentiments. It would be good to know what is going on exactly and what the regionals / nationals will consist of. As I seem to recall we all paid an admin fee to join the leagues, which presumably would have contributed to the final prize fund?? Cheers, Jonathan.

We haven't taken over the Apn leagues but like other clubs we have continued a league after the collapse of the Apn. As you may be aware the Apn was born out of Bournemouth and I got to know Pete and Andy quite well and a few of us have started something to try and continue what they started. With the sponsorship of the new league, it was suggestd to try and evolve the league and try and see what interest we could get away from Bournemouth. This first season,we have 14 players all playing each other twice.A best of 16,race to 9 format-3 points for a win,1for a draw. 3 handicap groups-A gives B 2 racks,C 3 racks.B gives C 1 rack. Off scratch if you play someone the same handicap group as you. Nearly £1000 in the pot(held by hosting club)pay out to 6th. I have listened to the players and this format seems to work. The good players don't have to give stupid leads and the lesser players still have to play!

Animal - Its the same in St Albans we've got about 20 regulars in our league. They love their 9-ball around here. Hopefully we will be linking up with other clubs across the country.
Chris / blackref, did you get my email with all the St Albans names for the APN finals?

Expertfluke-if you are interested in our format and want your club to part of our grand scheme-let me know. Like I first mentioned, we are looking to have a Bournemouth Open to help promote the new league and sponsors of course! and it would be good to see some of you St.Albans boys down here. Just in case people are a bit sceptical about what we are trying to do-the hosting club holds all the monies, and a representative from your league acts as an administrator. Our sponsors will hopefully be supplying us with freebies, trophies, prizes etc so all you have to do is play pool!!!

Cheers,
Oz Jonathan. Ok this is how it is I have not taken over the APN the APN is dead and buried but a lot of players paid a admin cost as i did expecting to have a regional and national. Two weeks before the 3rd APN session was due to start I received a phone call from ANDY saying Im jacking it all in(Im not not going into great detail I would be here alweek writing). Now being the person that i am i don't like to let people down or leave people hanging especially when people have paid money into something but before you can let people know whats happening you have to have all the info yourself before you can give information out. So I thought to bring the APN to an end why not have a comp were the Regional qualifers and the National qualifers come together for a comp to bring it to a close with admin money paid into rileys used as the prize money. I have ask for Names, contact numbers, Handicaps and clubs thay play out of and all i get is names nothing else for example take yourself you say "Love to play - Just wanna know whats going on please. As do a few others no doubt" but were is the infomation i ask for this why I cannot give you information because I don't have the full info received to give info. So once i have received all the infomation then i can sit down work out a plan that will suit everybody then give dates, vue and formate. Would you travel miles to a comp being advertised as double elim or groups to find out thats its a straight knockout when you got there. this is what i have to think about. There were suppose to be regionals in your region and then you travel to a national but Im having to bring regional qualifers and national qualifers to one comp so to sort out hole big mess i need the info first before i can give you info. I hope this has put you in a better picture of what i have to do and to top it all i have a full time job to do. I could have just walked away from it all put that would have not done anything for the sport of pool and pool players like yourself. So when you look at peolpe organizing comps just think what thay have had to through to make something run smooth. thanks Chris Billings

Don't worry Chris we're all on your side. Maybe you could have a 'rough outline' Say you must recieve names by end of August. Then think of a suitable place (central etc) Have a rough date say November. Then next stage is getting some comfirmed numbers and then you can work out formats. Maybe its 32 , over 50, over 80, or 100. I would say you would get around 60+ But you are doing a great job and I'm sure everyone connected to the APN will try to show support. Done one week 3 matches races to 5. There's about 16 or 18 players . So 2 leagues with playoff's at the end. Only probelm being it's not handicapped, so a few 5-0's!! (how do you handicap short races at 8 ball anyone?)
Larry is doing scores - he should put the scores up on League republic but instead it's on the old tradition notice board by the bar. He says the internet is the work of the dev1l?

Thanks Black ref -
I wasnt havin a pop mate, i know how difficult running and organising comps can be. I just think that a post stating - "i am trying to organise a tournament involving all the APN winners and qualifiers so please can i have all the relevant names from the clubs and i will let you know the next step once i have that information" would have been a bit more helpfull..
it was just a bit open ended thats all.
You already have my name - Craig Osborne, winner from the Ipswich League.
Stick with it - as i said, The APN had a really strong following so its a great base for a tournament. We are lucky to have someone following it up like yourself.
good luck - hope you get something sorted soon for us. look forward to it.
Oz
