The World Games - founded in 1981 and only held every four years, over 30 sports and in excess of 4,000 competitors will compete for world medals. The 2013 edition is hosted by Cali, Colombia and is already one of the biggest sporting events of the year.

Here's Pro9's current coverage...

www.pro9.co.uk/html/article.php?sid=2288

...Not many photos this year, or any official reports from local pool reporters like last year, but I do have a few interesting bits and pieces that I hope to share with you all.

As usual, Darren Appleton is representing the UK, and as usual, he's doing rather well.

In fact, he's playing his Quarter-Final Match right now! He's already 3-0 up against the USA's Brandon Shuff!

Live results here...

Darren is the 11-6 winner!

He's into the semi finals tomorrow, and will play the winner of Markus Chamat {SWE) and Dennis Orcollo (PHI).

If you watch the Cali Games live streaming right now, you will see they are showing a game called "Ultimate" which is a field game using flying discs (don't mention Frisbee - doh!)

http://tv.theworldgames2013.com/

The interesting thing about this particular live stream was the way it was funded... Fans from all over the world paid donations totaling the target $15,000 to get their sport live-streamed.

I've asked Kurt for some more photos if he has anything.

Congratulations to Darren Appleton for getting into the final... Guaranteed a Silver Medal now after what must have been a truly Herculean effort against Dennis Orcollo.

THE FINAL

Darren Appleton (GBR) vs. (TPE) Chang Jun-Lin

This match starts around 7pm London time I think and you can see live updated rack by rack scores at this link.

Going for Gold!
