Did anyone else think it was a bit much the way Hazel asked such emotive questions of John Higgins after the final?

I thought she had planned her questions really well so as to trigger John's tears just at the right moment. Just like the atmosphere for the intros I think the whole thing was brilliantly coreographed by the BBC to give maximum drama. And you can't blame them for that as it's exactly what the sport needs.

I will admit I really enjoyed the coverage this year, they always add so much more than just pointing cameras at the tables.

I think there may be a crop of journalists that see reducing a star to tears on live tv as a way of putting themselves in the shop window for bigger and better things. A similar thing happened to Peter Andre a couple of years back, following his split from Katie Price, and the female reporter (from Sky News whose name escapes me) had Peter on the ropes and then raised the question of Alex Reid adopting his kids. Poor bloke had to fight through the tears to get his words out on that occasion too.
Up to the point of THAT question John was clearly clinging on barely, she knew he was about to crack and went too far.
For me the BBC and Matchroom have done wonders for the game and the tournament and its coverage were a credit to the sport. If I was part of the BBC's sports team I would be having words with Mrs Irvine. The knowledge and input from ex-pro's during the tournament really give an insight into the thinking and shot selection of a pro inbetween shots. The 2 no-mark presenters are the achilles heal of snooker coverage and not a patch on Andy Goldstein for Sky Sports.

No need to push for the tears, we had that at the Masters.

John is the best in the game by far right now and only ronnie (maybe Trump) can live with him.

The thing I dont understand is, why keep bringing it up? He knows his father would be proud and he was probably thinking of his father after he won.

Why do they continually bring that up?

There's no shame in being publicly emotional after such a loss but I think they exploited him. If he was on Piers Morgan's interview show then you expect his father to be mentioned at some point. Immediately after a snooker final following the worst year of your life - not cool.
The snooker was already good TV without that.
