The new World Champions: Marek Kudlik, Oliwia Czuprynska and Jouni Tahti
Marek Kudlik is World Champion
Saturday, 03 September 2011: Poland’s Marek Kudlik defeated his fellow countryman Konrad Piekarski in the final match of the WPA World 9-ball Championships for juniors with 11:9.
The two teammates played at eye level during the early stage of the final match. Until the score was 5:4 in favour of Kudlik, no grave errors were made by any of the athletes. In the 12th rack, Piekarski missed an easy 9-ball, giving Kudlik a two-rack lead over him. Kudlik was even able to extend that lead to a nice and comfortable 8:5 in his favour. But Piekarski did not want to bury his dreams for the title yet. He struggled and came back to 8:7 when Kudlik broke the balls and ran out of position, playing a bad shot on the 3-ball. He kicked into the 3-ball and luckily pocketed the 9-ball. Piekarski never recovered from that. He did not find any possibility to stop Kudlik from winning his racks. Finally, Kudlik took the match with 11:9 and became a deserved World 9-Ball Champion in the juniors division.

WORLD 9-BALL CHAMPIONSHIPS - Oliwia Czuprynska is World Champion!
Oliwia Czuprynska - Poland
Polish Girl went for the Gold Medal
Saturday, 03 September 2011: In a gripping final, Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) won over Anastasia Nechaeva (RUS) with 9:7.
Things looked very promising for Czuprynska in the beginning of the match. She managed to gain a comfortable 4:0 lead over Nechaeva. But then the 18-year old girl from Yekaterinburg struck back. She turned the match and won the next 6 racks, taking a 6:4 lead over Czuprynska. It looked like the pressure was too much for Czuprynska. But far from it! Oliwia Czuprynska suddenly continued her focussed performance from the early stage of the match and in turn put pressure in Nechaeva, taking an 8:6 lead over her Russian opponent. Nechaeva was able to gain one more rack to make the score 8:7 in favour of Czuprynska. In the 16th rack which was a very tough runout, Oliwia Czuprynska eliminated all hopes from her opponent, winning the first World Champion title for her country in pool billiard’s history. “I am so proud, I cannot find the right words to express my feelings”, said Czuprynska after the final. “The last rack was so tough that I’m still shaking”. “I think it will take some time to realize what I have achieved today” stated Czuprynska.
In the wheelchair division, Jouni Tahti (FIN) overcame Henrik Larsson (SWE) with 9:6. Tahti was the favoured player and had the match under control at any time. He had a 5:1 and 7:3 lead over Larsson and everything looked like a quick end of that final. But Larsson managed to come back and close the gap a bit, making the score 8:6 for Tahti. Then, the experience from the Finish multiple European and World Champion made the difference and he won the World Champion title, winning the match with 9:6.
The final in the juniors division will come up next and will be played between Konrad Piekarski (POL) and Marek Kudlik (POL) Piekarski terminated Bence Varga (HUN) in a thriller with 11:10. Not less exciting, Kudlik ousted Marc Bijsterbosch (NED) 11:10. The final in the juniors division will be an all Polish clash between Piekarski and Kudlik.

Wheelchair final played between Tahti and Larsson
Saturday, 03 September 2011: The final day of the 2011 WPA World 9-ball Championships for Juniors and Wheelchair players has started with the semi-final matches in the wheelchair and in the girls division.
In the wheelchair division, both matches were quite clear with regards to the results. Jouni Tahti (FIN) defeated Fred Dinsmore (IRE) with 9:4. Tahti was the favourite in that match from the very beginning, and it took six racks before Dinsmore was able to open his account. 5:1 was the score for Tahti by then. After a time-out, Dinsmore got into the game a bit better but the gap to Tahti was too big already. Tahti was a deserved 9:4 winner in the end and will now play for the Gold Medal in the wheelchair division.
He will be joined by Henrik Larsson (SWE) who ousted Kurt Deklerck (BEL) clearly with 9:3. As in the other match, Larsson was dominating Deklerck today and never let anyone get a doubt that he is not going to win this match. The final match between Tahti and Larsson will be an interesting encounter for the crown in the world of wheelchair 9-ball.
In the girls division, local hero Oliwia Czuprynska (POL) enjoyed the popularity from the audience and overcame her opponent Kamila Khodjaeva (BEL) with 9:5. Czuprynska is 16 year old and will face Anastasia Nechaeva (RUS) in the final of the girls division. Nechaeva has beaten her teammate Darya Sirotina (RUS) in a semi-final thriller with 9:8.
The semi-finals in the boys division will be played between Marc Bijsterbosch (NED) v Marek Kudlik (POL) and Konrad Piekarski (POL) v Bence Varga (HUN).
