FEDOR GORST IS CHAMPION OF THE WORLD
Fedor Gorst was crowned the 2024 World Pool Champion after defeating Eklent Kaçi at the Prince Abdullah Al-Faisal City Sports Hall in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, oin partnership with the Saudi Arabian Billiard & Snooker Federation (SABSF) and the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Sport.
RESULT
Fedor Gorst vs Eklent Kaçi 15-14
Gorst capitalised on winning the lag, securing an early 3-0 lead against Eklent Kaçi. However, Kaçi fought back in the fourth rack, escaping Gorst’s tight safety on the 2-ball. Undeterred, Gorst quickly reclaimed control, surviving a safety from Kaçi on the 2-ball in the next rack to extend his lead to 5-1.
Despite Kaçi claiming a few racks, Gorst showcased his prowess with a series of spectacular shots. A high-flying jump shot on the 2-ball in rack 8, followed by another jump shot on the 3-ball in rack 13, brought the score to 8-4.
Kaçi mounted a spirited comeback, winning two consecutive racks, but a costly error in rack 15 saw him park the 9-ball next to the pocket. Seizing the opportunity, Gorst executed a brilliant carom shot off the 3-ball to sink the 9-ball, pushing the score to 9-6.
The battle intensified as the players exchanged racks, reaching rack 19. Kaçi’s repeated mistake of parking the 4-ball gave Gorst yet another opening to clear the table. Determined, Kaçi took advantage of a dry break from Gorst to clean up the rack. However, a scratch on Kaçi’s break allowed Gorst to keep his lead and execute two break-and-runs, extending his lead to 13-9.

Despite winning the lag, Eklent Kaçi struggled to gain momentum at the start, with both players immediately engaging in a rack exchange. In rack 5, the Albanian scratched on the break, allowing Chua to set up a remarkable 2-6-9 combo and begin a four-rack lead.
Kaçi found his chance in rack 9, potting the 2-ball after Chua failed to hook, allowing him to run up the racks. Chua tried to regain control in rack 12 but miscued the 8-ball, enabling Kaçi to not only level the field but also kickstart a nine-rack win streak to become the first World Pool Championship finalist of this year.

Shane Van Boening and Joshua Filler’s attempt to secure their second title came to a tragic end in the Last 16 stage, with the pair being knocked out by Wojciech Szewczyk and Anton Raga, respectively.
Van Boening struggled against the Polish warrior Wojciech Szewczyk, who controlled the pace of the game to the very end. A self-inflicted hook prevented Van Boening from stopping Szewczyk on the hill, causing him to foul and allowing Szewczyk to win the round. Szewczyk proceeded to face Wiktor Zielinski in the clash of the Poles, where he executed a 3-9 combo shot in the final rack to defeat Zielinski 11-5.
Filler’s pursuit of the crown was halted in rack 16, where he failed to pot the 6-ball, allowing Anton ‘The Dragon’ Raga to clear up the racks. However, Raga’s dream of seizing the title came to an end in the quarterfinals, where he met Fedor Gorst. Gorst conducted a clinic against Raga, executing a long bank shot on the 9-ball in rack 5, followed by a long jump shot to escape a hook in rack 10, to finish 11-4.

From one champion to another, the two-time World Pool Champion Thorsten Hohmann also exited the tournament in similar fashion, following back-to-back losses against Kledio Kaçi and James Georgiadis.
