US OPEN 9-BALL FIELD FULL AT 256 ENTRIES
The 256-player field for the 43rd US Open 9-Ball Championship is now full.
With 221 player entries confirmed, and 35 spots reserved for global qualifying events still to take place, Matchroom Multi Sport is now operating a waiting list system. Players who have not yet entered the 2019 US Open 9-Ball Championship should join the waiting list at www.matchroompool.com/usopen9ball. If a place in the event becomes available, the player at the top of the waiting list will be contacted and offered that space.
Players can still enter one of the many qualifying events taking place around the world which offers entry to the US Open 9-Ball Championship, which is set for Mandalay Bay Resort Las Vegas this April 21-26. A full list of qualifying events can be found at www.matchroompool.com/usopen9ball.
Matchroom Multi Sport COO Emily Frazer said: “We’re thrilled to have filled the field for the US Open 9-Ball already. We knew this event was going to be hugely popular but to have a full field more than three months before the event shows just how excited the pool world is about Matchroom’s first US Open.
“The US Open 9-Ball is a great event with a long and illustrious history. We’ve got plans now to take it to a whole new level and we’ve got lots of big news to announce over the next few weeks.

Matchroom Multi Sport is excited to announce that SALUC, the blue-chip billiard ball manufacturer from Callenelle, Belgium have renewed their agreement to provide their world-class Aramith balls at all Matchroom’s pool events over the coming three years.
The new three-year agreement continues a long-standing relationship between the two organisations that goes back to the 1990’s.
There are four events scheduled for 2019, including the first year with Matchroom at the helm of the US Open. In what promises to the biggest year yet for pool, Aramith Balls will be seen by more viewers and have a bigger social media reach than ever before.

The deal will represent a continuous partnership between SIMONIS and Matchroom which has lasted for 23 years.
With four events in the calendar for 2019, including the first year of Matchroom’s ownership of the US Open, it will be the biggest year yet with SIMONIS cloth set to garner even more exposure that ever before as the Official Cloth Supplier for Matchroom Pool’s roster of international events.

Germany’s Joshua Filler wins his first World 9-ball Championship with a hard fought 13-10 win over the Philippines Carlo Biado.

Yesterday in Doha, Joshua Filler and his wife, Pia, celebrated their one year wedding anniversary. Today, Filler presented his bride and biggest fan the best gift he’ll probably ever give her; a world title.
Playing in his typical fast and loose fashion, the 21 year old German battled his way to a hard fought 13-10 win over the Philippines Carlo Biado to win his very first WPA World 9-ball Championship in front of several hundred fans at the Al Arabi Sports Club in Doha.
g a finals scrap as fans have witnessed in many years, with both players putting in superb performances under the searing pressure. Biado was trying to become the first man since Earl Strickland 27 years ago to win back to back world 9-ball titles. The players exchanged the lead several times and the outcome was in doubt until the last quarter of the match, when Filler did what all champions do: he turned on the after burners to claim pool’s most coveted crown.
With the victory Filler’s future is about as bright as it could possibly get. He had already won the brutally tough China Open in 201, and followed that up later that same year with a Mosconi Cup MVP where he even potted the very last ball to seal Europe’s victory. He possesses surreal talent and plays with a confidence that is palpable to even casual fans. The phrase, ‘Sky’s the limit,’ is hardly a cliché when talking about Filler.
