Roy Kimberley and Daniel Lee
Lee makes it Four in a Row!
17 players arrived at Aylesbury for the 2018 GNO Players Championship - among them were a number of players returning from a few years away from the BWPPA tour, including Fred Dinsmore, competing in his first tournament since being crowned the wheelchair World 9-ball Champion.
The early stages threw up some great clashes. A dramatic encounter between local cue man Chris Brown and Adam Pearson, which saw Pearson clinch the decider for a 7-6 victory. Frankie Gillen returned to the tour after 3 years as a recipient of the BWPPA’s new sponsorship scheme. His campaign got off to a dream start with a 7-0 win over Lee Woodward.
Among the heavyweights “the Sandman” Roy Kimberley survived an early scare against Gloucester potter Darren Staddon, Kimberley came through 7-5. UK No.1 Daniel Lee started the season with a 7-0 win over Iffy Hussain, while Dinsmore beat South Yorkshire’s Darren Taylor 7-2.

Jasmin Ouschan wins her 14th Women Euro-Tour event in Austria
Austrian superstar Jasmin Ouschan just won the EPBF Ballazzo Women Open in Sankt Johann im Pongau, Austria, with an impressive 7:2 victory over #1 ranked player Marharyta Fefilava (BLR).
The day did not start off too well for Ouschan. In her first match against Christine Steinlage (GER), she committed several easy errors and won the match just because Steinlage also played not her A-game. Probably Ouschan know that she had to improve drastically. 7:5 was the final score which brought Ouschan into the round of the last eight players where she had to deal with Kateryna Polovinchuk (UKR).

Kazakis takes his first title at the Euro-Tour
After a match against Denis Grabe (EST) which was dominated by him most of the time, Alexander Kazakis (GRE) won the Dynamic Billard Sankt Johann im Pongau Open 2018 with a clear 9:5 result in the final match.
Kazakis’ way into the final was not an easy one in this tournament. Already in winner’s round two he lost 6:9 to Edmond Zaja (ALB). He had a long way in fron of him on the loser’s side. In the loser’s qualification round, he was already 4:8 down to Mieszko Fortunski (POL) when he fought back and stayed alive in the tournament with 9:8. Maybe that match kind of woke him up since the results from then on were much clearer. 9:4 over Oliver Szolnoki (HUN), 9:1 over Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS), 9:2 over Abdullah Alshammari (KSA) and finally 9:5 over Eklent Kaci (ALB) the winner of the last Euro-Tour event in Treviso. The final match with Grabe was close until the score was 5:4 for Kazakis after 9 racks. Then both players went for a time-out. Kazakis came back a lot fresher and had better layouts after his break shot than Grabe did.

Ryan Davie - Cyclop Scottish 9 Ball Tour Event 2 Winner - Glasgow 7-4-18
Event 2 of the Cyclop Scottish Tour was played in Glasgow on Saturday 7th April and the standard seems to have kicked on from the first event with some of the top players in Scottish Pool taking part including Pat Holtz, Michael Valentine and the Champ from Event 1 Scott Gillespie.
The winner of the event was Ryan Davie who beat some top players along the way including Chick McCaig and Chris Pringle before moving on to winning a very close semi final against Ross Simpson (8-7) who himself had played fantastic all day, to set up a final with Marc Flemming. Marc also played excellent all day beating Remi Pastore, Chris Slack and John Ward along the way. Ryan won the final 8-4 in a very high standard match and was a deserving winning he hardly missed a ball all day.
As well as Marc and Ryan playing great in getting to the final there were some other great performances on the day, John Ward played lovely in getting to the semi final with his highlight being a well deserved victory over Michael Valentine who John had been trying to score a win over for years. Another highlight was the last 16 match between Pat Holtz and Michael Valentine which Michael just edged 8-7 was great to watch 2 of the top 9 ball players in action. Also a mention to Stephen Slater playing great in the early rounds to get to the last 16 took away some lovely finishes.
Event 3 is scheduled for May 26th in Edinburgh and although the event is currently full we welcome anyone who would like to add their names to the reserve list to take part please visit the Cyclop Scottish Tour facebook page.

Niels Feijen (NED), also known as „The Terminator“, has just won the Zagreb Open 2018 with an impressive 9:5 victory over last year’s winner Sanjin Pehlivanovic (BIH) in the final match.
His elbow has created severe problems for the Dutch premier player. Therefore, he had to lay down his cue stick for a while and recover. It seems that this period did not harm him at all. The Zagreb Open 2018 was filled with 128 players, including big names such as Albin Ouschan (AUT), Roberto Bartol (CRO), Sandor Tot (HUN), and Zoran Svilar (SRB), just to name a few. However, „The Terminator“ made his way into the final with 7 straight victories, leaving no room for doubt that he wanted to show the pool world that he is back in the game.

The Return of the Cyclop Scottish 9 Ball Tour - Event 2
Saturday 7th April sees the return of the Cyclop Scottish 9 Ball Tour. Following on from the success of the first event in January – where Scott Gillespie was the deserving winner – event 2 is likely to be even tougher. The tour moves west this time and will be held in Glasgow. A tough 64-man field is in place and the event is already full, with dozens on the reserve list waiting to snap up the places of any last-minute pull-outs. Scott will be amongst the favourites again, but will have some of the other top players in Scottish pool to contend with: Pat Holtz, Scott Ross, Ryan Davie, and Marc and Ryan Fleming.
The Tour will have five events, as well as a Grand Final held in October. The ranking points accumulated at these events will be used to determine the draw of final, as well as used to form the teams of what is likely to be a keenly contested East/West team event to be held in December.
The event will be screened free over Facebook by Stephen Tosh and his team at Premier Event Streaming. If you haven’t already done so, give them a follow. They are becoming the best in the business at covering pool events on an almost weekly basis and did a fantastic job at last weekend’s West of Scotland Blackball tour.

Van Boening grabs US Open One Pocket title
Report by Mary Coffman - CueSports International
Shane Van Boening captured another US Open title, making an undefeated run to win the US Open One Pocket Championship on Sunday in Las Vegas.
The US Open One Pocket Championship started Mar. 23-25 at Griff’s in Las Vegas. CueSports International added $5,000 to the One Pocket Championship and $2,500 to the Bank Pool Championship, which Van Boening also won earlier in the week.
Van Boening swept through the 29-player field, giving up only three games during the entire tournament. His path included wins over: Jay Helfert, 4-0; Nick Beretanos, 4-1; Dee Adkins, 4-0; Ronnie Alcano, 4-0; before beating Oscar Dominguez, 4-1, to capture the hot seat.

Chris Melling - 2018 Chinese Pool World Championship Runner Up
Congratulations to the UK's Chris Melling for getting to the 2018 Chinese Pool World Championship Men's Final with an outstanding run of wins over many of China's top players.
In the final, after leading the first session by a massive 10-2 margin, the second session started well, but rack by rack with an almost imperceivable progress, China's Zheng Yubo clawed his way back until the score was level, and finally edged in front to take the title at the very last moment with a 21-19 score.
Before his ultimate match, Chris posted to his army of fans following on Facebook, "Well it’s time for the biggest match of my life and I’m 100% ready for it. Thanks once again for all the support. I’ll post when the match is over hopefully I’ll be the world champion again".
Well, he couldn't have been closer, and hopefully he will have another chance next year, but for now, we send commiserations to him from all the Pro9'ers watching the live stream, but in the words of Darren Appleton, "you did us proud!"
