All credit to ABN Billiards for putting this on, and offering free live streaming from both the Kremlin Cup, and this event which I saw someone wittily refer to as the "Moscowni" Cup - and I'm wondering if the real Mosconi Cup Team Europe should take notice that Johan Ruysink is obviously doing some serious warming up of Team USA (albeit with Corey Deuel subbed in for Skylar Woodward) and if the European fans should be worried about meeting a more prepared opponent in Las Vegas this year?

The action starts later today after the Kremlin Cup Final - and you can watch it LIVE here on Pro9's Chat Page... www.pro9.co.uk/html/chat.php

World #2 Jayson Shaw joins the DigiCue Team

We are proud to announce that Jayson ‘Eagle Eye’ Shaw has joined the DigiCue Team of Pro Players. Jayson is currently the WPA #2 ranked player in the world, one of the hottest players on the world tournament circuit and a threat to win any event he competes in. So why would one of the best players in the world endorse a billiard training aid? Jayson Shaw: “As good as I am playing right now, every now and then my stroke gets a little out of line. We all have bad habits that surface from time to time so when I practice with the DigiCue it immediately alerts me with a vibration when my stroke is not where it needs to be. When most people think of training aids they think they are only for beginners but I really do believe that the DigiCue can benefit any player of any skill level.”

Introduced by OB Cues in November 2016, the DigiCue has been one of the fastest selling products in the billiard industry over the last 10 months. It is a small electronic device that slides onto the back of any pool, snooker or carom cue and will alert you with a subtle vibration when it detects your stroke going off line, jumping up on the shot or poor follow through. With an MSRP of $99.99 and a replaceable battery that is good for 40,000 shots, the DigiCue is a perfect gift and a great compliment to anyone that wants to get serious about their game.

Joshua Filler (GER)

Filler Europe’s first 8-Ball Champion U23

With an impressive 8:2 victory over Samuel Santos (POR), Joshua Filler (GER) just won the 8-ball title at the inaugural Dynamic Billard European Championships for U23 at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands.

The final match was played between Joshua Filler (GER) and Samuel Santos (POR). Filler was definite the player who was regarded as the highest favourite in the field. Santos was not necessarily expected to get this far but due to his premium performance here, he secured his spot in the final match. With victories over Berk Mehmetcik (TNC) 8:4 and Casper Matikainen (FIN) 8:5 he underlined his claim for the title today. On the other hand, Filler took down Georgi Georgiev (BUL) 8:4 and Roberto Bartol (CRO) 8:4 to meet Santos in the title match. In the beginning of the final, it looked as if there was a close competition between the two contestants. After 5 racks the score was 3:2 to Filler but Santos seemed to have a foot in the door still. However, that changed dramatically. Filler simply did not make any mistakes and played ice cold as he is known for. Whenever he was at the table he made the game look so easy since he made no mistakes, being it pocketing balls or playing position for the cue ball. He was always almost perfect for his next position. Consequently, he took the next 6 racks in a row and had Santos only play an insignificant role in the rest of the match. In the end, Filler took the match 8:2 and won the inaugural title undefeated.

Susanne Wessel (GER) and Henrique Correia (POR)

8-ball titles go to Wessel and Correia

The titles in the 8-ball individuals at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. In the ladies division, Germany had a perfect day and took all 4 medals including the title for Susanne Wessel (GER). In the senior’s division, Henrique Correia (POR) took the title.

The final match in the senior’s division was played between Henrique Correia and Jim Telfer (NED). The odds were totally in favour of Correia. With 7 titles under his belt already, he was set for his next title. Having defeated Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) 7:2 among others today, he was filled with confidence and started the match furiously. The first 4 racks belonged to him alone and it looked like Telfer would receive a nice whipping from him. The Dutch who had eliminated his teammate Jesse Thehu (NED) 8:7 in the semi-final needed to get a foot in the door in the match. His break shot did not work and Correia made no mistakes so the final looked like a quick and easy walk for Correia. But after the first 4 racks, Telfer got to the table and cleared two times in a row to set his mark in the match. Correia was warned. Telfer should not be underestimated. From the time on when Telfer opened his account on the scoreboard, he played stronger and used his chances. However, he missed a few critical shots at bad times during the match. Each time when he got closer to Correia, he missed a makable ball and Correia kept the distance to him. In the end, Correia finished Telfer with 8:6 which brought him his 8th title at European Championships. Jim Telfer is a very deserved silver medallist today.

Ine Helvik and Vegar Kristiansen (both NOR)

Massive Norwegian victory in Leende today

The next medals have been awarded at the Dynamic Billard European Championships for Seniors and Ladies at the Golden Tulip Jagershorst Hotel in Leende, The Netherlands. Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) and Ine Helvik (NOR) took the titles in the 10-ball division. Three out of a total of 8 medals including both titles went to Norway today.

The final match in the seniors division was as fiercely fought over as expected. Reiner Wirsbitzki (GER) as well as Vegar Kristiansen (NOR) both have a lot of experience and several titles under their belt. In total, they have won 7 titles and won 24 medals on former European Championships. So this time, a real favourite could not be spotted at all before the match. And the match confirmed that assumption. They both took racks in turn and their play was determined by a lot of tactical and safety elements. In the end, Kristiansen turned out to be the stronger player today. His safety play as well as his pocketing skills out-mastered Wirsbitzki. He took three consecutive racks and made 8:5 the final score in his favour. Kristiansen seemed to have more power left in the end of the match.
