 | 2017 12BET World Cup of Pool - Austria are the Champions! |

Austria 10-6 USA AUSTRIA HAVE WON the 2017 12BET World Cup of Pool as the duo of Mario He and Albion Ouschan secured the title against Team USA, who had their moments but ultimately could not contain the Austrians. Winning the prestigious scotch doubles title for the first time, the Austrians secured the magnificent trophy, gold medals as well as $60,000 to split. Although disappointed, Shane Van Boening and Skyler Woodward can console themselves with a cheque for $30,000 and the added bonus of playing so well as a team ahead of the 2017 Mosconi Cup in December. Earlier in the day both teams had assumed the underdog role in their semi-finals but won through, with Austria beating China and the USA getting the better of Chinese Taipei. That set up the race to 10 final which got underway in sweltering conditions in the famous York Hall in the heart of London’s bustling East End. The two teams sparred through the early stages and the score stood at 2-2 and then 4-4 as neither side managed to assert themselves. They shared the next two before the USA moved into a 6-5 lead. The critical moment came in the 12th game, when the US took the bolder option of a pot when the safety might have been the option. Woodward missed the pot and from there Austria levelled it at 6-6. It was to be the USA’s last meaningful contribution to the game as Austria took the next four to win the 12BET World Cup of Pool. A delighted Ouschan said, “It’s crazy. After winning against England B with such a bad performance in the quarter-finals we didn’t think about lifting the trophy. But I played two almost perfect sets, Mario played incredibly well and made some important shots. I am so proud of him and myself, it is an amazing feeling. Share this article on FaceBook

USA 9-4 Chinese Taipei Austria 9-1 China IT WILL BE USA v AUSTRIA who contest the final of the 2017 12BET World Cup of Pool as they both scored surprisingly straightforward wins against top opposition inside a sweltering York Hall on Sunday afternoon. With a $60,000 prize awaiting the champions and it will be Austria’s first final in the event’s 12-year history. The USA on the other hand have reached the final twice, losing to the Philippines in the event’s inaugural year – 2006 - and then winning two years later in Rotterdam with Shane Van Boening and Rodney Morris making up the victorious team. It was Van Boening accompanied by Skyler Woodward who flew the flag this year and they took hold of the semi-final match against defending champions Chinese Taipei and never really looked back. The Taiwanese had lead 2-1 but then the US axis reeled off four straight racks to create some space and it was a gap the Asians could never close. Commented a delighted Van Boening, “Oh man, I am very happy to be in the final – specially to win against the number one seed is just unreal. I am proud of Skyler Share this article on FaceBook

China 9-2 Philippines Austria 9-7 England CHINA AND AUSTRIA completed the semi-final line-ups of the 12BET World Cup of Pool as they won in contrasting styles at the York Hall this evening. The Chinese pair romped home in superb style, giving the Philippines little table time in their 9-2 win, while Austria gutted it out against England B in an error-strewn affair. The arena was very hot with table-side temperatures in the 30s and it certainly impacted the tempo of play. Featuring 32 two-man teams from around the globe, the 12BET World Cup of Pool is into its 11th year as reigning champions Chinese Taipei attempt to become the first team ever to successfully defend the title in the $250,000 event. In the opening match, China looked in unstoppable form as they trounced the Philippines 9-2 to reach the semi-final where they will face Austria. The duo of Wu Jiaqing and Dang Jinhu were flawless as the controlled every aspect of their game to leave the Philippines as mere spectators for most of the time. Share this article on FaceBook

Philippines 7-5 Holland England 7-6 Scotland USA 7-5 Spain THERE WERE THREE more humdingers at the York Hall on Friday night as the second round of the 12BET World Cup of Pool concluded. There were wins for the Philippines, England B and the USA but each match was hard fought and went down to the closing stages. Featuring 32 two-man teams from around the globe, the 12BET World Cup of Pool is into its 11th year as reigning champions Chinese Taipei attempt to become the first team ever to successfully defend the title at the York Hall. In a high-quality match-up, the Filipino duo of Johan ‘Bubwit’ Chua and Carlo Biado edged past Holland in a game where all four players were up to the task. There was offensive play and high-quality safeties and the close of the match rested on a miscalculation by Nils Feijen. Earlier, the Philippines had opened up a 5-1 lead, but Feijen and Nick van den Berg had come back at them methodically to level it up at 5-5. Following van den Berg’s break, there was no shot on the lowest ball and Feijen pushed out, nudging the 9 ball. Share this article on FaceBook

JAPAN BECAME the first team through to the last eight of the 2017 12BET World Cup of Pool as they enjoyed a comfortable win against Canada. There was also a second-round win for Finland as the USA closed out the first-round matches with a whitewash against Singapore. Featuring 32 two-man teams from around the globe, the 12BET World Cup of Pool is into its 11th year as reigning champions Chinese Taipei attempt to become the first team ever to successfully defend the title at the York Hall. The final first round match featured the American pair of Shane Van Boening and Skyler Woodward and they looked an excellent combination as they outplayed the Singaporean duo of Aloysius Yapp and Toh Lian Han. 7-0 was the final score – the fourth whitewash of the first round. Commented Van Boening, “We played great and only made one mistake early on and we were able to take advantage of their mistakes. They didn’t perform well and they didn’t get the layouts on the table they would have wanted. “I have played against Skyler in quite a few tournaments and he is a great player, which is why I decided to pick him as my partner.” Share this article on FaceBook

Appleton, Rossman Elected to Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame By Mike Panozzo
The Billiard Congress of America Hall of Fame welcomes a transplanted English 8-Ball star and one of the sport's most enthusiastic ambassadors to the class of 2017. The United States Billiard Media Association today announced that three-time World Champion Darren Appleton and "Dr. Cue" Tom Rossman have earned induction as the 69th and 70th members of the sport's most prestigious hall of fame.
Appleton, 41, will enter the Greatest Players wing of the BCA Hall of Fame, while Rossman, 69, will be honored in the Meritorious Service category. Both will be formally inducted during ceremonies later in the year. Born in Yorkshire in northern England, Appleton split his childhood between English 8-Ball, soccer and boxing. He compiled a 12-4 record as an amateur fighter and won the junior national English 8-ball championship in 1996, at 16. Four years later, Appleton decided to devote full time to his cue career, and over the next decade he was the top-ranked player in the world seven times.

Japan 7-2 Thailand Philippines 7-4 Qatar England B 7-0 Indonesia IT WAS AN early night at the York Hall, East London as Japan, the Philippines and England B, all enjoyed comfortable wins at the 2017 12BET World Cup of Pool. Of the nine first round matches completed, the favourites have won on eight occasions with just India, who overturned England A on Tuesday the sole underdog victors. The pairing of Daryl Peach, a finalist last year with Mark Gray, and Imran Majid, looked in top form as they hammered the Indonesian pairing of Irsal Nasution and Muhammad Simanjuntak 7-0. Arguably the best showing of the first round, the English pair put their opponents under the type of pressure that limited their visits and forced errors. Majid said, “We came up with a good couple of breaks at the beginning to get the momentum and we smashed it – that’s what we are here for. “We came here and we are going about our own business – it is irrelevant what any other team does, we have to concentrate on our own game. Peach added, “We both gelled brilliantly. We have been playing a lot over the last couple of days and we knew we were on it. We are looking forward to the Scotland match, it is another tough match for us. It will be the same attitude, head on and do what we do.” Share this article on FaceBook
