McDermott Hosts Factory Tour Event for Authorized Dealers
McDermott Cue Mfg., LLC is a leading manufacturer and worldwide distributor of pool cues, performance shafts and billiard accessories. McDermott recently hosted a factory tour event for their authorized dealers.
Over 25 people from around the world attended the event on July 12th. Guests were given guided tours of McDermott’s factory where they saw the cue-making process firsthand.
Guests were invited to participate in hands-on experiences like hand-gluing inlays, cue staining, and applying a linen wrap to a cue.
“We were excited to open up our factory to our dealers from across the world,” said Greg Knight, owner of McDermott Cue. “It was a great opportunity for us to showcase our production process and help them appreciate the time and effort that goes into making a high-quality, handcrafted cue.”
Visitors were also given a first look at McDermott’s new product line for 2017 before it officially debuted at the BCA Home & Leisure Expo the following day.

Preview: 2016 GB9 UK Open
One of the biggest tournament in GB9’s history takes place this coming weekend as the second staging of the UK Open takes place at the Park Inn by Radisson hotel in Telford.
Three years on from the inaugural UK Open, the tournament returns in place of this year’s Northern Masters tournament with arguably the biggest prizes ever on offer to some of Europe’s top players. For the first time, GB9 has collaborated with Matchroom Sport in hosting an event which carries ranking points for European team selection in the Mosconi Cup. Alongside all Eurotour events and other major amateur competitions such as the Duerne City Classic and the Longoni Benelux Open, placings in the competition will count towards a collective ranking list to determine two of the five places open to Team Europe in this year’s Mosconi Cup. What’s more, this tournament guarantees a prize find of £13,500 with £2,500 being taken home by the winner.
The format for the competition resembles the usual double elimination format used across GB9 competitions, with the only noticeable difference being that races to 11 will take place from the quarter-final stage. There will also be a bonus event for all players not making the last 32 stage. A truly star-studded line-up is due to compete in the tournament, with confirmed names such as Ralf Souquet, Niels Feijen, Nikos Ekonomopolous, Mika Immonen, Jayson Shaw & David Alcaide alongside many of the top professionals and amateurs from across Great Britain. This promises to be one of the strongest line-ups ever to compete in an event on these shores, and fans are urged to come and sample the action in Telford if they can.

ZLATEVA GOES UNDEFEATED IN SWITZERLAND

Bern, the capitol city of Switzerland, hosted the Mezz Women’s Swiss Open, the country’s largest women’s tournament of 2016. The women’s pool scene in Switzerland has been steadily dwindling over the past years and the Swiss Championship qualifying tournaments reached very low numbers in the 2015 season. Tournament organizers, Cristina Tschudi and Daniel Schneider, wanted to hold an event that would inject some life into women’s pool in this region and raise the level of competition.
With 58 players representing 11 different nationalities, the tournament featured a star-studded field with multiple Swiss and European medal holders. This two-day 9-Ball event paid a prize fund of 5200 CHF and over 3000 CHF in additional prizes including products donated by Turtle Rack, Zan Tips, Shot Pad and the event organizers. In addition to the main event and the men’s side event, players competed in one-on-one shoot outs and break and run contests to win the additional prizes like Swarovski jewelry sets and pool equipment.

Rodney maintains lead as Oscar closes in
WITH TWO more events having played out over the past weekend, veteran Rodney Morris still leads in the 28 event series as the chase for the three automatic spots on Team USA continues. With 12 events gone, there is everything to play for
With overseas players filling six of the top eight spots at the West Coast Challenge, it was Jason Williams who was the best placed American, finishing third with 28 points. Oscar Dominguez earned 18 points for his 7th place finish which was enough to maintain his second spot in the ranking and close the gap to just five points.
Elsewhere, on the Mid-West 9 Ball Tour in Olathe, Kansas it was veteran Robb Saez who bagged the top spot and with it 35 points to break in to the top ten. Skyler Woodward, who came in third place, moves up to fourth overall and is well positioned with plenty of events to come.

RASSON announced as new Matchroom Pool table supplier
MATCHROOM SPORT is delighted to announce that RASSON BILLIARDS will be the Official Table Supplier at all Matchroom pool events over the next three years.
The company, based in Jiujiang City in south western China, have made large in roads into the billiard world since setting up 26 years ago. Originally, they were a slate producing country, something that they still specialize in.
Rasson will be bringing their top-of-the-range Victory table to the Mosconi Cup, World Cup of Pool and World Pool Masters.
With the Mosconi Cup set for Alexandra Palace, London this December and details of the World Cup of Pool and World Pool Masters 23rd and 11th editions to be announced in due course, Rasson’s tables will be seen on pool’s global stage over the next three years.
