Appleton and Boyes share the spoils of war in Spain.

Entry was limited to 192 players including a strong field of 131 from the host nation of Spain - some spots were reserved for National qualifiers - and an excellent turn-out from the rest of Europe too comprising the remaining 61 players in the field.

Darren "Dynamite" Appleton stormed through the group stages, generally only conceding the occasional rack, and his brilliant form continued to the race-to-seven single elimination stages from the Last 32 onwards.

Upon reaching the race-to-eight final, low and behold, the opponent awaiting him was good friend and compatriot Karl "Buzzin" Boyes who had a similar run of form in his half of the draw.

As the final was relayed LIVE around the world by Internet streaming video viewers saw Appleton take the 8-5 victory and collect 4,000 Euros for his effort, Boyes received 2,000 for his second place.

In the Last 32 stage Appleton had his closest call of the tournament when Spaniard Fancisco Diaz took him to the hill only conceding the race-to-seven match by a single rack.

The Yorkshireman then dished out two consecutive whitewashes to stunned opponents, firstly to fellow international Mohammed Yassin, and then it was Italian supremo Fabio Petroni's turn to receive a 7-0 drubbing.

Antonio Fazanes took a mere four racks off the eventual champion in their semi-final match, but the writing had been on the wall for a long time.

Karl Boyes, the other finalist in Spain, had his own litany of pool stars to face in his half of the Last 32 as well, including the familiar names of Thomas Seiffert, and Croatia's Ivica Putnik.

Ultimately, no ones was going to deny Appleton his almost predestined right to take the biggest golden trophy at this event, and despite a spirited effort by Boyes, Darren prevailed with an 8-5 win.
