Matchroom Sport are delighted to announce that 2006 World Pool Championship will take place in Manila, Philippines from Saturday to Sunday 4-12 November.

Hosted by Raya Sports and Events, a division of Prism Communications, the tournament will feature 128 players from an estimated 40-plus countries competing for a US$400,000 prize fund, a record for the event.

The 2006 World Pool Championship will be televised across Asia by host broadcaster ESPN Star Sports of Singapore and will also be aired live in various European countries including the UK.

In addition, a host of countries around the world will be taking highlights packages of the event.

Format

  • Group Stages –32 x seeded groups of 4 with each player playing the others once, giving three matches per player and six matches per group in total. All matches are race-to-8 alternate break, with two points for a win.

  • The top two in each group move forward to the knockout stages. Order is decided by total points, followed by most racks won, followed by most racks conceded, followed by the result of the match between players concerned

  • Last 64 – race-to-10 racks, winner breaks.

  • Last 32 – race-to-10 racks winner breaks.

  • Last 16 – race-to-11 racks winner breaks

  • Quarter-Finals – race-to-11 racks winner breaks

  • Semi-Finals – race-to-11 racks winner breaks

  • The Final – race-to-17 racks winner breaks

    Sanctioning

    The 2006 World Pool Championship is sanctioned by the World Pool Association which is the world governing body for pool and administers the game at many levels across the globe. Membership of the WPA is made up of continental members which currently consists of Africa, Asia, Europe, North America Oceania and Latin America and the Caribbean. Individual national associations are in turn members of their continental associations.
