This is basically to let all players that are playing/planning to play on the Empire Pool Tour know that there has been an important rule change that will be in effect from the Manchester open.
Its to do with cue specification.
Many players were emailing the EPT with their views on the "no phenolic tips" rule. Well after long discusion the EPT have decided to relax this rule. So basically any cue can be used, phenolic or leather, but still NO jump cues. Players can play jump shots providing the cue used to perform the shot is a "full cue"
We are sorry if this has caused any inconvenience, but we feel that from the feedback from players that this is now the correct rule.

I thought Phenolic tips were always allowed on the EPT. I read the rules when the tour was announced and posted this thread. I guess I must have been mistaken.

Its totally a matter of listening to what the players have to say, then its up to me to make things right for ALL the players where it is possible for me to do so.
This subject has been very much talked about both openly and to me from players by email.
The new rule is based on the fact that most UK 9ball players only have phenolic break cues so it would be unfair to them to have to go out and by a new cue to play on the EPT. This way any player can play with any cue tip they want.

i totally understand the views of people who have been playing american pool for years and years, then suddenly jump cues get introduced. but the length of time i've been playing, the jump cue has always been around. so for me, it is part of the game! but yeh! aslong as the majority is happy! Note that the IPT (Which is coming to the UK shortly, watch out for Ronnie O'Sullivan in a press conference today) have already banned both short jump cues and any kind of non-leather tip, so any Pros already qualified or trying to qualify for the IPT need to brush up on their jump shots with a regular cue.

I'm intending to be able to kick better and not worry about jump shots because to be perfectly honest, if you have a pheonolic tip/ferrule, anyone can play a jump shot, but although anyone can make a kick shotcan also be said, but to be able to make a kick shot with intention and accuracy, takes a greater skill and knowledge, than making a jump shot I personally wouldn't mind going out and buying a new cue stick, if it meant being able to play on the EPT or IPT because if you wanna play on the tour, you gotta go by the tour's rules , but as Daryl has mentioned before, the EPT is a PLAYER's tour and the fact that the 2.0 rule has been altered, is the perfect example of how other tours should be

I'm genuinely gutted about Victoria but it would be even worse if I couldn't make the first EPT event.
