Hi all, I will be running a new 8-Ball competition at the Crucible Snooker Club in Stockport on Edward Street next to Town Hall, the club has had new tables fitted recently and the manager keeps the tables in great nick 12 in all, 1st prize is £100 2nd Prize £50 and semis is £25 entry is £5, enter on the night no later than 7-45pm for an 8pm start just turn up any Tuesday or if you want further info you can mail me at markmills@markmills.net or mobile 07985 676356... Sounds great Mark. What rules will be played? EPT? i.e. IPT but with Phenolic tips? And what format?

All being well I'll be there Tomorrow. Is it OK for parking?

Hi Riggers, Any tips can be used and just the standard 8-ball rules, you can park right outside the club free after 6pm and the club has a car park also at the side of the club so plenty of parking, so hope to see you there.

I only really know IPT rules and always struggle to remember the difference between these and standard 8 ball rules. I think there was a thread on it here but I can't find it.

If anyone can list the differences I'd appreciate it. The only one I can think of is that you don't have to break from the box with standard rules. I have a feeling the 3 foul rule doesn't apply too but I'm not sure.

Mark - out of interest how many runners are you expecting? Doesn't take a mathematician to work out you are out of pocket unless at least 40 turn up!

Is it every Tuesday?

Your having a giraffe, in that last post I listed the differences between IPT/EPT rules and World rules and its dissapeared and I cant be arsed listing them again!

Hi, The club itself makes up any money that needs to be made up so if 25 turn up thats £125 the club will give me the £75 difference they make there money on the bar/food etc and it is single elimination and the loser pays the table which will only be a few quid in return, they asked me to run this event and in return I get free table play anytime and free brews seeing as I don't drink. I am going to go with the IPT rules as I think once this becomes popular which I am sure it will then these are the rules that everyone will be more used to, but we will allow you to use any break cues, but don't worry the manager is guaranteeing the money and you all have a chance anyhow of winning it as I will only be concentrating on running it.

Just an addition to the last, I mentioned in an earlier post that there were 12 tables but this has been reduced to 8 forgot that the other 4 tables were UK 8-ball tables, one of the tables has a logo on it so I will not use that except if the club regulars who take part are happy to play on it which I know they will but tour players etc I will keep of that one table. Yes Big Dave it is every Tuesday and the money is guaranteed every week and it looks so far that we could have a minimum of 20 there has been a lot of interest.

Cheers for a great tournament last night Mark! The tournament was well run and the club was great and also the tables were very good as well. Recommend this comp to anyone.

Thanks Mark for a good tournament and well done to Andy. I really enjoyed it too and will be coming to the next one for sure. My comments:

- It did finish a little late for me so maybe the format needs some consideration. I arrived home at 1am.

- Some of the less experienced players there were not at all familiar with the rules - some just choosing to play 2 shots carry! They would have benefited from a flyer of some sort that had a bullet point list of the main differences between english and american pool (requirement to hit a rail, ball in hand, call shot etc). It's always difficult to explain the rules verbally when organising a tournament - most people simply don't bother to listen and then complain when you call a foul on them. If you hand out a flyer they can read it while waiting for their match. I've put one together on a single sheet that I can let you have if you want.

- The tables were a bit of a mixed bag. The first 2 I played on were Ok (or maybe even good) but the last one (that you said was good!) was terrible!

- I'm sure there must be a better system than 'loser pays the table' where you have to remind the loser to go and pay, have the lights switched off then on again etc. If the club really do want to charge for the tables (and so they should if they are guaranteeing the prize money) it might be better to just increase the entry fee (maybe by £3 or so) and make it clear to everyone that this covers the cost of the tables.

- It's a nice club and Hanna and staff were really friendly.

- On the whole I'd say this is one of the best mid-week tournaments I've played in.
