Tony,

I may have a crack at this if I can get up on Sunday! Just out of general interest, how does putting the 7 and 8 behind the 1 speed the games up?

:)

If you have random you get players putting low value balls behind 1 playing soft break to leave combo on 9
7/8 behind reduces this

The position of the 1 means more balls on break but trying to avoid leaving easy combos been tried and tested

Ah right. That makes sense! When I get to practice I rack them top to bottom and left to right in the following setup - 1, 3, 4, 5, 9, 6, 7, 8, 2 just to see where the balls are likely to end up with my break. When I break a ball from the rail on the line on the right hand side I often achieve a good break but only get 2 points, usually a ball but the 3 sits close to the 9. I always thought that my Magic Rack had seen a bit too much action but maybe I have what some would call a soft break when I'm trying to hit them hard! I always thought that for serious tournaments a random number generator should dictate the pattern for each rack to make it harder for the pattern rackers!
