***ST ALBANS WIN THE INAUGURAL HINRICHS CUP***
The Hinrich Cup in memory of Larry Hinrichs made its highly awaited debut yesterday at Hurricane Room High Wycombe with Two teams of Eight players captained by Russell Thomas of High Wycombe and Dan Lim of St Albans.
This event raised over £200 for charity and was overseen by Larrys Son Johann Hinrichs and Daughter Becky Oneof Akind Hinrichs with the coverted trophy up for grabs to the winning team.
This event had all the makings of a real slugfest across the pool table between two very keen and talented set of cueists from all different cuesport diceplines, with Snooker and UK 8 Ball players joining up with the 9 Ball players.
The Event was nip and tuck from the off with the first FIVE matches going to the hill and ending in 5-4s...

this sequence ended with a 5-0 win from Kevin Moyles over Paul Montague, to which gave St Albans a commanding early lead of 5 points to 1.
With two further victories it looked like High Wycombe would fold at 7-1, until Russell Thomas stepped up to stop the rot with a real captains performance to shut out Paul Summerfield, 5-1 and pull Wycombes back into contension.
Phil Johnson and Richard Haywood then won their matches to bring the score to 8 Games to 3 in favour of St Albans.
St Albans then went on the rampage with three straight wins and got ever closer to the trophy with High Wycombe unable to answer the barrage of shotmaking.
At 11-3, High Wycombe could of been forgiven for throwing the towel in at what looked like a lost cause, but to their credit then rolled

up their sleeves and started the comback with Three straight wins with Paul Montague, Russell Thomas and Assad Bashir leading the charge with scores of 5-4, 5-3 and 5-2 respectivly.
It was left to Rich Lowther to sink the final 9 Ball against Danny Johnson to send St Albans to the magic number 13 and victory.
All in all a very competetive atmosphere and some very close matchs, many of which came down to a few good rolls or bad breaks for either side, St Albans vast experience at the 9 Ball dicepline compared to High Wycombe was perhaps the telling factor with regards to the closer matches and the less experienced players eyes may have been opened to the subtle nuaices that this great game has.
Congratulations to the team from St Albans on winning this event. You all play

You all played some great stuff and did Larry very proud.
Commiserations to High Wycombe, it was a real privaledge to captain you all for the day and your resolve and detemination to not roll over under pressure was a real highlight for me. You did yourselves no harm and you all have a bag of potential at this game and can become a real force once more competitve matchs are under your belts.
And of course...I am honoured that I could be apart of this great event for a wonderful cause and in turn help pay tribute to Larry Hinrichs with an awsome group of people who shared his love of Pool.
Thank You all so much for a great day.
Roll on Hinrichs cup 2!!!
Regards Russ.
