What exactly are the proper rules for American 8-Ball? If it's anything like English Pool they'll have different rules all over the shop!

:)

Interesting. I just had a quick look and I feel that this particular set of rules would make English 8-Ball a better game...

Would have made a nice change too playing 8 Ball.

Good Luck with the event.

aww thats a shame Darren as im looking forward to this and think the event with just a £20 entry fee will be popular. I havent really played 8ball before but have done my research and rules are very interesting, should be a good event gets your names down so i have an idea of number and if enough players il order a nice piece of T9B glass for the winner

Standard WPA rules are perfect for 8 ball and it makes for a very attacking game.

The main very simple rule is that as long as you strike your own ball set first it will not be a foul regardless of what other balls are potted (except if you pot the black early).

This means there is little benefit in covering pockets as your opponent can simply plant one of his on to it. Unlike daft marbles this is NOT a foul (even if you don't also pot your own ball). However, in order to keep your visit going you would also need to have called and potted one of your own set in the same shot.

You can also call safe e.g. deliberately pot one of yours but in doing so call safe (meaning you can legitimately end your visit) and leave your opponent in trouble.

Lee,

I quit playing English Pool because it's a game that SHOULD be a lot better than it actually is. If they matched the cue ball size and weight to the other 15 balls and employed the above WPA American 8-Ball rules the game would be a lot of fun. As it is, I find it hard to watch and too frustrating to play...

I enjoyed your insight!

:)

Is there any particular trick to making balls consistently on the break? With the front ball where the 9-Ball would be on GB9 I had a real hard time earlier. I was hitting the front ball full from a half-ball from the middle of the string and I was getting decent movement from the second and third ball as they were going close to the middle pockets but they weren't falling. I presume that we will be using the triangle for this event Phil?

I presume that the Phil Hughes in at #7 is me then? I'm happy to sign up but I've just got to make sure that there isn't a second one signed up as I know that there is one that lives about 15 minutes from where I'm at!
