GB9 is now taking applications for the new look 2013 season. There are some exciting changes being implemented not least a move away from the Pro/Challenge format to a double elimination format. The first 100 applications will receive a £50 discount, from the feedback we have had we expect demand to be huge so don't delay! All looks very good but I have some questions before signing up. 1* Where are the events? 2*How many have signed up already as I dont want to commit the money if the field are short of players? 3*Is there somewhere I can view the entry list? 4* It says the hotel is £41 per player sharing? as a special discount GB9 price, I have stayed at Barcelo/Puma hotels in the past and regulary get emails from them, so why can I book a hotel the same weekend as GB9 events for £56 per room? seems its more to stay as a GB9 Player not discounted? 5* if its £600 per player to enter for the season and your tables say based on 128 players thats:- £600x128=£76,800 but over 5 events you paying £9825 per event so that x 5 events is £49,125 the difference is £27,675 where does that money go? thats 38% per event. Seems very high and means a player needs to make the Quarter Finals to break even. Im not having a dig as I have seen the great changes but I personally feel these details are holding me back from entering and might be holding others back to. Im not having a dig as I have seen the great changes but I personally feel these details are holding me back from entering and might be holding others back to. The GB9 committee do not discuss GB9 business on public forum but I shall briefly answer your points below. However I shall not comment further. 1. Venues will be announced very shortly. 2/3. The plans were only announced today so give players a chance. We have no plans to publish a member list. 4. All hotels offer promotions from time-to-time, our agreed rate offers a good deal compared to the hotels standard rate. 5. There are a lot of costs associated with running a tour in multiple venues using our own equipment. The figures you quote are not true because we are offering the first 100 players membership for £549 which effectively reduces our income by £5k pa. Taking that into account our costs work out at less than £5k per event. Our costs include (but are not limited to): Transport of tables and equipment, installation at every event, financing on table purchase, staff costs (TD, assistant TD, 2 x Refs), travel and accommodation for staff, trophies etc. etc. I hope that helps answer your questions? If you want to discuss anything further I ask you to contact me directly using the contact details on our website. Thanks. ----------------- Andy Warden, GB9 - Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser/sponsor √ [ This message was edited by: cueman on 2012-09-27 09:25 ]

Thank you Cueman for answering some questions. What you're saying is that 38% of every player's entry fee per event goes towards GB9 costs? GB9 policy dictates that we must stay in the hotel in order to be eligible to play in the events. 128 players at £41 per night is £10,496 per event.....£52.480 per year that the hotel gets off the players just on rooms. Does GB9 get anything from the hotel towards its costs? and if so how much? Rather than taking money out of players entry fees which decreases the prize fund, shouldn't GB9 be looking at the venue to cover its costs and also for possible sponsorship to boost the prize fund? If i were to play on the GB9 tour I would want to be assured that GB9 is looking out for my interests and work towards increasing my earnings as a profession [ This message was edited by: JimBrownPool on 2012-09-26 17:52 ]

I'll brush and clean all the tables and balls every morning at 7am, close the room up at 3am when all the drunks leave and stay in the room 16 hours a day every day reffing. Good shout Rich lol [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2012-09-26 19:40 ]

i think players would brush the tables, refs are just a nuisance they are only called into action a couple times a day, and with regards to the finals you have people like martin royce who would happily do it,

Jim brown pool makes some valid points. It does seem excessive that the costs of GB9 can exceed 5k per tournament!! Many players have dropped off the tour this year. I wouldn't have thought that the format is the reason for this. Fair play to gb9 for trying something different for next season, i hope it's a success. However i think it would help if they were more transparent about their costs instead of players wondering where all the money goes. Gb9 needs to make the tour value for money. That's what will attract new players and existing players to compete.

If the the tour is for the players and run by the players, maybe make the accounts visible each year to the players at an AGM so that we know how and where the money is spent, transparency will make the tour even better. Just a thought

The main thing that stops me from wanting to pursue playing this year, is the principle that I have found cheaper rates for the rooms than GB9 have the rooms for, yet you have to pay the higher amount through GB9 you can't book your own room. If things have changed from 2 years ago great, but last time I couldve paid £44 in total for a single for 2 nights yet I had to pay £78 sharing because it had to go through GB9. I couldve stayed elsewhere as a reserve but wouldve been a £20 fee on top (that's fair enough when the rules say stay at main hotel). I like the format a lot this year and even if I don't sign up straight away I hope to be playing the last few events.
