Its the game they enjoy....... and which is more fun losing 9-0 to Chris Hall or having a hill-hill match with someone of a similar ability? ----------------- [ This message was edited by: DRM on 2012-05-30 01:04 ]

As for aspirations of getting better I have zero. At the end of the day its only a game which I play for fun. Its not my career. -----------------

Then if there is players that want to improve and players that dont care, surely it doesnt matter who they play against? Just saying that cutting players out of tournaments is not good for the UK 9 ball scene

I hear what you are saying and know where your coming from with that. I have played the game for a long long time now and these small local comps as soon as you have someone like a Chris Hall in them the turnout becomes 5-6 people as the others who play for fun on a Sunday afternoon no longer wish to play as they know they are not going to get a game for there money (yes some people don't come because they know they cant win) I know a lot of weaker players they really enjoy double elim as they get two games for their money and that is how they see it. they have no ambition of winning...... I have seen this at several events held at different venues. I'm sure you have heard the expression "might as well just give my money to *******" or "pocket money for *******" Ultimately the club owner is there to make money not to improve UK pool. They need the most amount of people in the club for the longest time buying drinks and food. If they get the most people by handicapping events or restricting entry then so be it. If you were as bad a player as me then you might see things differently. I believe that when you attend an event you believe and hope you can win and for you it is about the money and winning rather than just having a fun afternoon out. -----------------

Oh yes i totally agree that the club has to make money at thats its first priority, but without a UK 9 ball scene, there is no club?
I do go to tournaments knowing i can win them yes, but i also love the game and love winning just as much.

I feel sorry for the cat 2s who are pretty much excluded from playing anything local. Ive been felt to be excluded from a local Rileys 8-ball league, and I'm a cat 4/5 ffs! Some people just ain't got any ambition or drive and I think it's ridiculous!
You wanna play someone your level play for money!
Excluding people for being too good is totally wrong. Especially when they aren't yet in the bracket to compete with the elite. They are in no mans land and I don't think it is fair. Victims of their own moderate success...

I put bigger events on for top players they still dont enter so to be fair we have to make the most of what we got, You could play chris thursday night for a few quid mark if you loose least you can learn something lol.

Me personally would play anybody in a tournament it's the only way to learn the game. My 2nd ever game on the old BPPPA tour was against Daryl Peach. He had just won the World 9 Ball and he beat me 9-0. Learn a lot from that match and it only improved my game i feel. I do agree that some events are put on just for specific category players as it gives them a chance to win some money for the players who are interested in that, but me personally would rather enter the tournaments with the higher Cat players and hopefully would get drawn against them. (Later on in the tournament obviously) I used to love the 2 day events but there don't seem to be any nowadays as the numbers are just not there. If i could make it i would have entered this for sure. [ This message was edited by: -Dazza- on 2012-05-30 17:33 ]

How long does a retired Cat 2 have to stay retired before being a Cat 3?

i agree with what andy says in regarding including and excluding cat 2 players, cant win either way imo, likes of lunny, arfan n hall all entered these comps n most of the time took the spoils, maybe some players like playing better players in comps n some obviously dont but at a 10er a pop who would care who entered,if it was 50 a man then i think there`d be a case to argue about,10 flyers imo should be open to anyone, lunny arfan hall especially entered regular, good tournement practice, for example if there was a comp for just cat 1 and cat 2 for 10 er a man,if i was to enter then it would be great match practice against the better players for a 10 er,cant really grasp why cat 3 4 5 players dont see it like that, race to 9s at the end of the day,so on there days cat 3 4 5 can win
