Nelly, always welcome u n ur lass, top banter :) Got to give most of the credit to Mark for this one, hes a whizz at the old computers setting up the stream and having the scores on the big screen. Suppose all his hard work is worth it when he takes home the spoils haha.

On Saturday the 3rd Of November 2012, 32 players descended on Morley International Snooker Centre, hoping to be crowned champion of the annual Morley International Bonfire Tournament.

The field was full of quality players – from England Junior Internationals, to ex professionals and British Lions representatives. All the players knew it would be tough tournament to win… The winner would undoubtedly have deserved his winner’s prize!

The final was contested by ex-professional, Arfan Dad and ex-England Junior International, Mark Lunn.

Arfan started off the day with a nail biter against good friend and travelling companion, Andy Mitchell. A match of superb quality on the TV Table saw Arfan come through a 4-3 winner.

Next on his hit list was Ryan Bodsworth from Huddersfield. Arfan managed to get past Ryan with a 4-2 scoreline.

In the winners qualification round, Arfan was up against another good friend of his - Dave Nelson. Another high quality match ensured Arfans place in the last 8 with a comfortable 4-1 victory.

Lunn’s route through to the final started off against Dave Hill, owner of Morley International. Mark taking a comfortable 4-1 victory sending Dave to the losers bracket.

In the second round, a matchup with Bramleys Luke Meadmore was on the cards. Comfortable 4-1 victory for Lunn on the TV table saw him through to the winner’s qualification round.

Mark met Rick Needham, from Halifax, in the winner’s qualification round. Lunn stormed out of the blocks and managed to book his place in the last 8 with an impressive 4-0 victory.

Next up was the quarter final redraw. All quarter final qualifiers were put into a hat and redrawn…
Harris ALi    V    Mark Singleton
Arfan Dad     V    Ryan Bodsworth
Luke Meadmore    V    Nick Hill
Mark Lunn     V    Jay Murgatroyd

In the quarter final, Afran got drawn against Ryan Bodsworth for the second time in the day. Arfan proved too much for Ryan once again on route to a 5-2 victory.

Lunn was up against British Lions Representative, Jay Murgatryod. A truly hard fought match saw Mark just edge out Jay, 5-3.

Now we are down to the semi finals. Ali v Dad and Lunn v Hill.

Arfan put on a clinic against Bradford’s Harris Ali. 5-0 was the scoreline!

Mark also got through his semi final with relative ease with a 5-1 win over Nick Hill.

And then there were 2! Mark Lunn v Arfan Dad, first to 6 for the win! Neither player has lost a match to this point…

Arfan got off to a great start, with a break and run in the first and a nice clearance in the second for a 2-0 lead. Lunn, however, was not giving up without a fight and took the next 4 frames without reply to go 4-2 in front. But Dad somehow, after a shocking missed 8 ball from Lunn, managed to level the match at 4-4! It’s now best of 3!

Arfan had first chance in frame 7, but couldn’t take advantage and Lunn took a 5-4 advantage at the crutial point in the match… LUNN IS ON THE HILL!

But once again the pattern of this match showed up… This one was destined for a decider as Arfan takes out a nice finish one again to make it 5-5.

It was Arfan to break in the decider… He broke, but didn’t make a ball! First chance to Lunn.
But the match wasn’t over yet as Mark missed trying to squeeze a red into the corner pocket. Fortunately for him, he knocked some yellow balls safe in the process which left Arfan no option but to play safe… A small tactical battle later and Arfan looked to be in total control, until Mark played a tremendous shot! A red inoff another red! But it STILL wasn’t over yet… There was still work to do on Marks part... He potted the next red leaving himself a tricky red to the middle pocket at an extremely acute angle. Lunn composed himself and knocked the red in the middle, perfect position on the next red was a certainty and with the black over the middle pocket, that was all she wrote.

Mark wins the final 6-5!

Thanks to everyone that came, and hopefully we can have more events like this one in the future!
