I dont see the issue with fair start tournaments? Everyone gets a fair chance, more players in the club, and everyone is getting decent match practice?

Well I can't make this weekend anyway but it won't be stopping me going to Mickey Flyns where there will be several pro players involved including internationals. And a Cat 3 chopper like me even shared the winners prize in 2 of my last 3 tourneys down there. I go because I just enjoy playing and it's a good weekend away.

Some jokers on here with terrible comments that think there witty,Jesus christ Can see where the point is coming from for lower cat players,e.g cat 3 4 5 tournies, like Lunny said since feb not much for him n others who can make the comps, this cat 3 onwards comp would have been a regular tournie therefore cutting n mark n others out of comp practice, anyway crack on If players don't want to improve, chop away

Eric, we've met a handful of times and for the main, you're a sound guy and very opinionated which is great to read about in forums like this but please stop thinking so negatively and condemning things to near apocalyptic doom. Running these tournaments will not be the end of all pool as we know it!
I agree that this format covers a portion of players that have a shared passion for playing a quality of pool they are happy with, with their spare cash, disposable income etc. You know the guys thy are serious about improving their games and those people don't solely rely on tournaments like this, they are GB9 qualified, they play on MMTV, they practice whenever possible and some arrange money matches on the side. American pool has a hard enough time in UK Without us constantly
Del although I've met you a couple of times and agree sometimes with your posts,it's not negativity it's saying how things are going,9 ball for some reason as gone totally off the boil, check mmtv, action nights, you've prob been back on the scene 2 mins so haven't seen it's decline, shame really but it's not negativity it's telling it how it is
Thanks Doc I do see all sides but as you rightly say I'm giving an opinion purely since I've been in Wakefield which has only been last few months. Before that (roughly 3years for me) though, we were in a similar position I think so again I agree we've not really progressed to a level we should be at. I do accept what your saying isn't negative persay but constructive however how its percieved by the masses can dilute the point. Unfortunately perception relates as 9/10ths of the law and can be construed poorly if it's taken as personal which a lot of people do when you an others respectively discuss player ability and the desire to improve. That's my last on the subject and you have my full backing for all future events because without venues, organisers and players we wouldn't be able to enjoy the sport we love! Some great tournaments in the UK and as big bazza says we are very lucky to have the top 10% of pro/am gravy living in Yorkshire. We should be showcasing that fact to the rest of the UK IMO. yes Dixon I include you in that too Get the Cleveland kid back in the action c'mon jeb where's ya moneyyy!! ----------------- You're Welcome

If people want to hold comps for selective abilities that's fine, but when there is probably less than 1000 people playing competitive 9ball in the whole of the UK, don't be surprised when you have a poor turnout for a local comp.
Mr Lunn has got the right idea, open events with fair handicaps got to be the way forward. Let's get people playing the game ffs

I have been reading your post and most of it is very intresting, But i have to say even when big comps were arranged open to all players the entries come flooding in only for players one by one dropping out, Also i know through past experience if i put say £25 a man tourney on open to all cats it would not make a difference in entry prob get 2/3 more players, would be Arfan, Chris and Mark, Eric knows how hard it is to keep a club going and running comps is not easy i have run almost every event imaginable, If all the players pulled together with the talent we have around the yorkshire area we could have some of the best comps in the uk, I also agree we marks comments all players should be allowed to enter the competions no one should get punished for being good at what they work hard for, I can tell by the comments on here theres a lot of passion for 9ball still in the yorkshire area so i will do my best to keep everyone happy in future events held at my club just hope the players pull together and support the events. Well said Andy, and we all appreciate that you have a business to sustain. As you've probably already read, I think the best idea is to use the 12-5 scale that we have done in the past, and had a good turnout for the tournaments, that way everyone gets to play should they so choose.

Yes i agree thats the way forward i reckon, it also gives the lower ranked players something to aim for to improve there handicap all entries will be given a fair rating lets see if this resolves the downslide in competion play.

I would travel to the Vegas bar for comps but I'm a cat 2 also, shame really cos I'd probably bring drinkers with me which I'm sure would be good for business.wouldn't mind giving a start to a higher cat if that's the problem for most,am sure lunn nd hall wouldn't mind doing the same for the competition
