Not sure how everyone else feels about this but punishing the top players with low handicaps and higher entry fees can't be right. It has to be one or the other imo, I understand the need for handicapping the better players to get more entries in but why do the so called top players have to pay more too, just seems wrong. Not having a go at you Phil coz you do a great job putting these events on but I just don't think it's fair.

I can see what your saying Arfan and thanks for the feedback, the reason this is currently the case is because it always seems to be the same standard of players that always cash. the handicap system is just an aid for the lesser, its not designed to be 50/50 matches as i feel sometimes this can get out of hand. The extra payments for the better standard player has always been in place since T9B started.

Agree with Phil, we do the same (higher fees) on the BWPPA tours, and players who pay more tend to be the ones cashing out, the lower price and h-cap encourages the little fish to go to T9ball events, and you need to little fish to have a chance or they will say why bother, i'm just putting money in a top players pocket.

Its a tough balance, Tony is right that you need the "small fish" too but its a fine balance between punishing the "big fish" and giving the "small fish" the incentive to play. One or the other tho i agree with Arfan, no point charging less as the chances of winning are still the same. I paid £65 last weekend in Barnsley, that is most ive ever paid into a relatively small tournament, most I've paid away from a T9B event is £20! Excluding GB9 of course
Again, don't want this to seem like a dig, but think youve done well to get 28 entries at Barnsley with such steep entry fees... Not used to it up north lol

I think the thing is that its the top players who don't seem to play for the fun of it... to them its all about the prize money. Before playing pool, snooker and golf were my games and I never saw this mentality in those sports. People were happy to travel to events for the experience and the challenge and any prize money (or prize equipment as is often the case at golf tournaments) is a bonus. So I've never liked the mentality we have in pool but if the top players demand good prize money then I think it's a good approach to ask them to pay more, especially as, like Phil says, even in handicapped events they almost always take the major portion of the prize money. I don't think the lesser players will mind the fact they are an underdog providing they get some value i.e. enough matches and feel they can compete. Most of them don't turn up expecting to win. So having a handicap that is small enough to give the lesser players a chance but still making the top player favourite overall is the way to go in my opinion for an amateur event. This coupled with a stepped entry fee looks like a winning combination to me so I think Phil has got it bang on. [ This message was edited by: Riggers on 2013-05-10 13:43 ]

I agree Riggers, but if it isnt all about the prize money, why is the entry £50+?

thanks again for the feedback guys. The T9B season is coming to an end and there is hours of working going in each day to prepare for next season. There will be some changes to what we feel will make the events better. Its about finding a happy balance, not to expensive but still an attrictive prize pool.

This is the first season Mark of the National Series, the entry was placed higher to try an attract the pros to these events, we have learnt alot and i think for a first time out have done a good job. we expected numbers to low and wanted to the players to travel with the series (this hasnt gone to plan) but we now nearly have a season under our belt of open events and things will change ready for Season 2.

I guess lucky it was £50+ overwise there would of been no value to playing in the events. Moving forwards event will be cheaper to try and get more players involved and if we gain extra players playing for the love rather than just the money then events will be better.

To be honest Phil, £65, paying more and giving start was a bit much for me. Of course not just saying that because I didnt win lol. I understand its tough to cater for all but I believe the current situation were in is because nobody can really afford to play! Keep it up tho pal, they dont seem to mind paying down south

I would be interested in dusting my cues off for this if its postponed to a different date, but think the entry needs to be lower to encourage the players who rarely or never cash in (me included!) as £50 (or more) is a bit much for a "day out with a bit of practise" [ This message was edited by: TonyDavid on 2013-05-13 07:32 ]

Hi Tony, thanks for the feedback, this event is going to be postponed and and the entry fees will be reduced. T9B are always trying different formats, entry fees, venues to try and find the perfect event. We hope to not price any players out and will therefore make this event cheaper when we have a new date.
****EVENT THIS SATURDAY****
The event now planned for this Saturday with be at a new venue for T9B events High Wycombe Hurricane Room.
new thread will be up soon, support this event thats offers fantastic value... a minimum of 4 matches per player
