Lets be fair though, Chris Hall could give a 9 start to 21 to most of the guys in Vegas Bar and still win. Still the favourite to win the comp even if he has to pay twice as much AND give away heavy starts.

think if ur capable of runnin racks regular like all level 4s are then they should feel confident in short races against any1 in world. however if ur level 6 like me and cant run a rack then its foolish to evan enter without a decent handicap. if i had plus 4 againstany level 2 race to 9 id still get hammered so its pointless me evan entering. good luck with comp. id tek it on chin if demand for these comps was high but its not and needs all types of players in to make it work.

One lucky result... I don't practise anyway so I can't be a 3 ;)

You could put level 3 4 5 at +6 start n it still wouldn't be enough, want jam on it all the time, make it race to 9s n cat 3 4 5 6 n receive 6 start n maybe just maybe they might enter, good luck mate ye will need it with the lower cats,if there not 80% fav they don't want to know,no wonder they don't improve, there happy getting 3 chances a rack n winning n we all know who I'm we're on about, never improve

Its stupid mate, dont quite think 3 chances a rack is fair but know what you're saying. There isn't any need to be disrespectful to all lower level cat players.

If I could afford to travel to Wakey more and play Chris/Mark/yourself/Arfan and whoever else,Id quite happily lose a tenner a set to get punished, learn from my mistakes and come back a stronger player for it. I strive to play 'one chance pool' where I can but you need the strong players to punish you, and make you wake up a little more.

Except for darts, there isn't another sport/game where you can enter so cheaply and draw top quality players. It makes me laugh how the same players enter GB9 with no chance of even making the last 8 and spend probably £250 a weekend for the privilege.

Totally agree with this comment. The amount of money people spend on GB9 and then won't enter a comp for a tenner to play better players and improve.

It's the only way unless your gonna pay for coaching!?!?

Cat 3 all day long if you ask me. it seems to me this whole category needs a good looking at. people are just taking the mickey and trying to make a second income at other players expenses. sort this out dog otherwise nobody will bother with events like these. waterbean is a category 3 all day long.

I'm a Cat 4 based on my 2008 GB9 standard, but play more like a Cat 6 now as i've not been practising or playing the game much since then.

Wouldn't stop me entering events like these if i wasn't working like today :-(

This will now be handicapped the level 1/2 players will play off -2 the cat 3 players will play off scratch and the 4/5/6 players will play off +2 hope this will be what people are looking for!

As much as you try Andy you'll never please everyone.

I'd happily play off scratch against anyone in a higher or lower Cat than me just for the experience and to improve by playing better players.

I don't play pool to make a living (although that would be awesome) I play because i enjoy the game and wan't to improve as a player.

Would this still have gone ahead with only 3 confirmed entries?? I think not.

can i also point out the level 2 players need to stride to improve also, and they wont improve playin lower cats with trash handicaps, bigger handicaps for lower cats will also make the top players improve as they need to make less mistakes to win. not just about the lower players improving. also if i was a level 2 and dedicated my childhood to cuesports id be looking more at my own game and askin why im not level 1 n competing with pros on a world level rather than tryin to mock and rob the lower cat players who have just started out or havent dedicated their lives to cuesports

not really, ur mental game can improve by being under pressure in every match, similar to pressure we are under every round by being massive underdog

think a good idea would be for andy to keep a record all tournament fixtures n results so we can see what margins players r winnin by etc then we can have evidence when were debating regarding if handicaps given are enough/ not enough. im pretty sure if records were kept it would show that its the same top players shining through which suggests to me more handicap is needed to make games FAIRER. just a question of how many clear racks they have been winning by really. i might be wrong but i very much doubt it, am quite a clever guy

Good idea,I agree with you with I'm very rarely wrong, infact last time I was wrong was in 1983 but after an investigation it was found I wasn't wrong n the other guy had false evidence,it's made a mark against my name which I have to live with,it won't happen again :-)

plus if its all about improving peoples games and there are no level 1s in then logic says its pointless level 2 guys entering as its impossible to improve based on ur theory of only improvin by playin better players. on the other hand if if these tournaments are based on winning cash n not improving then the same should apply to the lower cats hence equal chance to win the cash = more handicap lol

I don't need to improve as im awesome anyway ;-)

Your theory can't happen I.e

No cat 2s enter because no cat 1s in it so cat 2s can't improve, therefore if no cat 2s there's no point in cat 3s entering as they can't improve, roll on effect :-)

Solution...quit the game n take up darts, sport where no one moans about he's better than me n he's better than him so I'm not playing unless I have 3 darts n he plays with 2 darts

Job done
