If the tourney is as entertaining as this thread it will be well worth entering lol

I'm not bothering because I think I should be a Cat 4. Nicky beat me on the Brunswick by a lot more than the 3 start I gave him so if he's a cat4 I'm a cat 6 lol

You beat me regular lee so does that mean I'm a cat 4 as well

IMO a cat 3 player has more chance of beating a cat 2 player than a cat 5 player would have of beating a cat 3 player. I don't see the cat 5 players moaning about that, strange characters in the pool world, lol.

Seems to me the cat 3 players are trying to rip off the the cat 4's and cat 5's and then the cat 2's get accused of ruining tournament entries because they always win, gimme a break!

Here's an idea choppers, keep running pool/tournies as they are being run now and kill 9 ball altogether very soon, give yourself a big hand in a few month when it's completely dead, roll on the cat 6 7 n 8 comps then

Eric, we've met a handful of times and for the main, you're a sound guy and very opinionated which is great to read about in forums like this but please stop thinking so negatively and condemning things to near apocalyptic doom. Running these tournaments will not be the end of all pool as we know it!

I agree that this format covers a portion of players that have a shared passion for playing a quality of pool they are happy with, with their spare cash, disposable income etc. You know the guys thy are serious about improving their games and those people don't solely rely on tournaments like this, they are GB9 qualified, they play on MMTV, they practice whenever possible and some arrange money matches on the side. American pool has a hard enough time in UK Without us constantly

The issue is Del that there hasnt been a standard tourney since around feb? And with the gaps between GB9 there hasnt really been anything to play in. There defo should be tournaments that better players cant play in but for the most part they should be open to anyone IMO.

At the end of the day all we want to do is play pool. Then lets just play!

I do agree with that part Luggsy as above, however people will play at their level if they wish. Personally I dont want to exclude anyone and will play anyone as you know but it has to be acknowledged that there are people who are happy just playing there level. I fall into cat 4 but in my mind I'm a 1 and wont stop improving!

Club owners lets make it happen an set up a tourney that encompasses all. In the past it's failed from what I've seen but now let's make everyone put their money where their mouth is.

MF is putting on multiskill level tourneys that attract overseas players even, that are well worth travelling for we should be able to do the same locally.

Highlander loves the game!

We dont mind fair handicaps, and im sure the cat 3+s dont mind us playing as long as the handicaps are fair. But running a handicap tournament AND cutting out players seems a bit weird IMO

The thing that really bemuses me about this is that Yorkshire is the strongest and most competitive county in England for 9-ball pool. The lower category players are best placed to learn from better players and yet they refuse them entry into stuff. They should be thankful that there are regular £10 comps and a plethora of cat 2 players to come up against.

Best point that's been made yet is that people lemonade £100's on GB9 weekends yet won't spend £10 locally. Should make the most of the talent you have in that region, I wish we had a 10th of it in Leicester!!!

Del although I've met you a couple of times and agree sometimes with your posts,it's not negativity it's saying how things are going,9 ball for some reason as gone totally off the boil, check mmtv, action nights, you've prob been back on the scene 2 mins so haven't seen it's decline, shame really but it's not negativity it's telling it how it is

Correct mr Lunn n mr French

I don't understand why cutting cat 2s out for 10 tournies makes sense, especially when tables on free play lol, it would be like cat 2s not playing against cat 1s in 10 er tournies, happily play all day to play that standard of player, mark you are totally correct with your post, just having cat 3 4 5 tournies is only guna harm pool, these cat 3 4 5 tournies would be a reg thing if this debate wasn't brought up n could still be,see it as negativity del but it isn't, if you can't see it will harm 9 ball in the long run by cutting supposably top players out(cat 2) on a reg basis then im baffled

Fair one doc, I just don't believe this one minuscule type of tourney will harm the bigger picture. Those that want and have desire/passion to get better will....end of.

I do want everyone to be happy but even the big guns don't like losing money it's a fact of life

Simple answer is to keep playing action games one on one like lots of people do because no one ever going to agree on this topic lol
