Everyone that's in the top 16 in the UK is pro surely? Its an amateur tournament The pro division is not made up of the UK top 16 (thats determined by main rankings) and the pro cup rankings are not (yet) a fair reflection of who is a genuine pro player. At the moment organisers discretion is still the best way of doing this IMO but if you had to use any rankings the main UK ranking is the best.

Not everyone play pool for a living as in recent discussion on this topic a pro is some one who makes a living from playing pool full time, GB9 had a pro division last year elite or not it was still a pro division, there are players in that elite division who dont play pool full time travelling the world.

Just because you dont play for a living doesnt mean that your not a pro though? I do agree with Lee that this year doesnt reflect pro staus like it should but surely as of next year when it does, pro is pro and thats that really.

If that were the case you would allow Chris Melling and Mark Gray to play in this amateur event. Chris' GB ranking is influenced by him missing events due to international appearances. I think you are right in that it should prove to be a more useful benchmark but organisors should still use common sense and discretion.

I Agree that the GB9 ball tour should reflect the pro's.. You got to take a look at the IPA tour anyone who is a pro on there tour is classed as a pro and only about 5 of them make a living playing pool.... I think the Pro Div should be classed as pro's and also the Organizer final word on the ones that may slip though the net!! If your in the pro Division you are one of the top players in the country hence being in the pro Division.. JUST IMO!! [ This message was edited by: noluck on 2012-01-11 12:19 ]

JUST IMO!! I agree... Lee - players like Melling is a totally different subject as it wasnt his fault he was relegated. All im saying is that GB9 is the British pool tour, this is british amateur event, therefore GB9 should be used too determine "Pro" status i think, in all the UK events. When you agree to go pro you agree not to play in amateur events IMO.

You can't have it both ways though. If you're solely going by rankings and then see real pro players get relegated to the challenge division i.e. Melling or Gray, would you be happy to see them in the british amateur event or any other amateur event for that matter? Pool players and enthusiasts know who the 'proper' pros are and i'm glad that Andy is using common sense when determining who is classed as a proper pro player. In my eyes, any player that makes a living solely from playing pool is a pro and the rest are enthusiasts who love playing the game. With my current job and having kids, i'm lucky to practice more than 2-3 hours a week so even though i'll be playing in the elite 16 this season, i definitely don't class myself as a professional player as i have a 'proper' job, haha. However, being an 'enthusiast', i'm looking forward to the challenge of playing the real 'pros' ----------------- Regards

mr lunn you have very valid points, when agreeing to being in the pro division then you cant enter amateur tournements surely, ipa tour is an example of this
but persoanlly im not bothered either way which way andy chooses to go but surely its got to be set from the off for future comps and any other organiser to follow with there comps
arfans 2 3 times a week, thats more than the pros play anyway, you must have a very understanding wife mate lol
needs clearing up before it gets out of hand for sure
mark gray works also i believe and isnt in the pro division so can he enter, just asking

it does make a bit of a mockery of it even if players accept pro status or gain it then play in an amateur event regardless on how much they play or make a living from it you dont after make a living from playin 9ball to be classed as a pro or be of pro standard playing in the pro division a mean im defo pro standard,am awesome to be fair but am a mere amateur tryin to earn a few quid seriously though andy, needs addressing and whatever gets chosen it has to be stuck by for all events and comps throughtout so its not a slanging match over it

I made it quite clear on page 1 what the rules are for this event i have also been using the gb9 main event rankings for guidance well over 6month now and feel its the way forward there is only 5/6 players it effects, COMMON SENSE WILL PREVAIL.
