Welcome to Pro9 Nick!
Where in London are you planning these? Which club/clubs will you be using?
Have you any idea of entry fees yet?

What kind of tourney? What kind of prize fund? What kind of entry fee? Where would you hold it? Having these kind of details will be what people need to spark interest. £5/£10 forget it, £30-50 entry fee I'm in. Has to be worth the travel etc Ossie

Ossie I understand what you meant but I can not give those details until unless I have required number of players for this tournament. When I get those I will upload these details. Nick

I think you might need to be bold and decide a venue, date and prize structure - announce it here - and if enough people register, then great, you're a Tournament Director - if not, cancel it and try changing some parameters that you feel might have been preventing you from getting enough runners - you may be able to get feedback about this here too. (I know you can't specify actual prize money without knowing how many runners you might get, but you can post a tentative prize structure, like whether it will be "all paid in paid out", and perhaps percentages for the winner/runner-up/quarter-finalists etc.) as people will want to know this before committing to play. Better to have tried and failed, than to never have tried at all. Just trying to help... Good luck. [ This message was edited by: Administrator on 2014-01-19 22:40 ]

youd definitely get more people if you upped the entry fee as like SHOTGUN said people wont travel any distance for a £10 entry comp.

Hi Nick, would be a good idea to put a poster up at The Hurricane room Kings cross advertising the tournament because I know of maybe 10 players who maybe interested to play but dont use this website. Other local clubs may show an interest aswell i.e Hurricane room Acton and St Albans. Not all poolplayers use this website. Another suggestion would be to have an entry fee of 20-30 pounds to attract players from further a field. Usually tournaments pay 40 percent to the winner and a groups format is usually preferred for one day events as players get to play a few matches on the day. Side events such as a break and run and speed pool go down well aswell.

Count me in if this goes ahead. I prefer that it took place in King's Cross though.

Are you guaranteeing the prize money out of your own pocket? You just need to be careful to be clear about this to avoid any confusion. Also (as mentioned by The Maharaja) it's a good idea to explain what the format will be i.e. double elim, single elim, round robin followed by single elim? What will the races be? People won't want to travel and find they are playing a race to 4 single elim. Some of this is hard to nail down until you know how many runners you'll get but you can make an estimated guess and base your event on say 32 runners. Then if you only get 16, as long as you are upfront with people, they won't normally mind if you make a few tweaks a few days before the event to adapt to the new numbers and ensure people still get value. Although adusting the entry fee at this point is not advisable but you can always adjust the races. You would usually payout to a quarter of the field.

Think he means 3rd and 4th (semi finalists) get £50 Lee, so only £500 in prize money.
