Just putting the feelers out for this one, would anyone be interested in a double elimination tournament on Sunday 4th November in either Newcastle or Sunderland, would be looking at £20 entry with £100 added? [ This message was edited by: MartinBullet on 2012-10-16 17:14 ]

Sounds good pal. See if I can get a car full of us over from Vegas so we can both support each others events.

Cheers Doc, there's 8 tables to play with, and would be pretty much the same format as Mark had at Vegas Bar on Sunday, so it will be handicapped, race to your handicap. [ This message was edited by: MartinBullet on 2012-10-16 18:44 ]

The 12-5 handicap is the best system imo

Yeah agree doc, 12-5 best way IMO. Gives everyone as fairer chance as possible

It's the best format for handicap system yes but just don't think it works with double elim. If you shorten the races in losers side it favours the players with the bigger handicap and if you keep races the same then players will complain about how long it is taking.

Exactly my point Nelly when your an 11 and he is a 6 but because it's losers side you race to 9 he races to 4 lol. I think smaller races and group stages could be the way forward.
Personally I don't agree with handicaps though, players practise to get to the level they are at. Lesser players are only going to improve by playing the big boys off scratch.

If you don't use the 12-5 handicap and play off levels soon as a couple of cat 2s enter, cat 3-4-5-6 emigrate, only way to try ang get numbers up using 12-5 or maybe putting together a double chance comp like total 9 ball have done, very successful n well run,no 0120am finishes there and it's handicapped, just a thought

Yeah was difficult being first proper 9 ball event I've run there, number of players/tables etc didn't really add up to the initial plan. Just imagine if we hadn't done -2 on losers side lol
Your right nelly we all learned a lot from the event and the next one will be bigger and better

OK, I'll speak to the club and try and get it arranged, 12-5 handicap seems like the best way to do it with shorter races in the loser's round, plus we'll have 8 tables available so hopefully will run smoothly. I'll post up here when it's confirmed and start getting names

I know what your saying Doc! Confuses me why lower cats don't want to play off scratch, especially the ones that play on GB9! Can understand if it's big entry fee's but £20 for double elim and get to play against top players in country... Well worth it and lesser players are only going to improve by playing these sort of tournaments.

Me and Martin are gonna speak to the Riley's over the next few days and hopefully get some dates. Will post some prospective dates to ensure it does not clash with anything! I guess we could try 12-5 then straight double elim and see how the numbers hold up!
Nice to be involved in setting up some events in the North East.
