Mr Dines, the original deal was a five year one so Francisco Butamante and Yukio Akakiyama won the first two so 2014 should host the last one unless they renew the contract.

I was wondering about that too, but when I saw this on the official site... "QATAR is the host country of the 2012 World 9-Ball Championship (W9BC) of the World Pool-Billiard Association. Qatar will hold this championship consecutively until 2013..." Source: http://www.qbsf.net/en/...I figured they must know. Who can we contact to confirm this? I fire of emails to them regularly, but rarely if ever, receive a reply. [ This message was edited by: BigDave on 2012-05-10 05:23 ]

Thank you Doug and Big Dave for the replies and info It's good to hear from you Doug and I hope you're keeping well good sir It's a shame the event is gonna be there for another 2/3 years because I can't help wonder if the overall prize money would be better if the event was staged elsewhere, such as Europe or North America, where there would be more prize money generated from qualifyer tournament participants, whereas Doha is kinda in an area of the world that a fair majority of people aren't too keen on travelling too. Has there any info on where the event is moving too, if the contract is not extended for Quatar? Thank you again gentlemen Willie

I don't know if the logistics would allow it to be possible, but it would be nice if the current world champions country hosted the world championship the following year. So for example Japan would host this year and if Mark Gray won it, it would move to England.
Perhaps this may encourage TV stations to pick it up if their local guys have done damage? More publicity etc?
Of course its probably all been said before but I wish there was room for more growth in this game. I hate the fact that 9-ball is the runt of the litter in terms of cuesports, as this requires more skill than english 8-ball.

QATAR HAVE STATED THEIR INTENTION TO BECOME 'THE SPORTS CAPITAL OF THE WORLD'. SO IT MIGHT BE THAT THEY RENEW THE CONTRACT AGAIN. EVEN WITHOUT THAT POSSIBILITY IT IS UNLIKELY THAT ANY DECISION WOULD BE MADE AT THIS EARLY STAGE. PERSONALLY I WOULD LIKE TO SEE IT COME BACK TO IT'S SPIRITUAL HOME - CARDIFF. PERHAPS I MIGHT DO SOME WORK ON THAT

It would be great to have it back in Cardiff and live on Sky Sports again! Why did Barry Hearn and Matchroom lose interest in that format, it seemed really good?

Matchroom used to cost out the tournament properly and that would include a substantial amount for production costs. This budget would be well in excess of $1,000,000. This allowed them to make a tournament that was a saleable TV production and offer a substantial prize fund. That lasted until they were undermined in the Philippines. Raya Sports offered a cut price version (10 Ball) and they settled for a low quality TV Production. This dropped the botttom out of the market and Matchroom were never able to repair the damage. If it were possible that you could encourage those in the WPA to bring the WPC's back to Cardiff again where it really belongs, I think that the EPBF should have a Hall Of Fame the same as the BCA with you being an honoury member under merritous status Most of the American & Canadian players loved it when the WPC's was in Cardiff and that's saying alot

A nice thought Willie but Jack the Ripper has more chance of an EPBF nomination than I have. Having said that I agree that there should be a Hall of Fame for the UK. Excluding current successful players whose time will come, there are some prominent names whose presence would be guaranteed. Just for starters - Tommy Donlon with a record in all forms of pool that may never be equalled. Steve Knight - a star who sparkled brightly but dimmed far too soon. But he made an enormous impact on the game in that short time. Barry Hearn, just for what has gone before in pool. One final name who can still arrive at Platform One - The Flying Scotsman Ross McInnes. Mrs McInnes will have to wait a bit longer. There are a couple more contenders but I leave that open How about it Mr Peach and Mr Jones. [ This message was edited by: Doug on 2012-05-15 11:22 ]

Most of the American & Canadian players loved it when the WPC's was in Cardiff and that's saying alot It would be briliant to get the World 9 Ball back to Cardiff. All that is needed to achieve this is 1) Find a sponsor for around $700,000 which is the minimum that would be needed to stage the tournament PROPERLY. 2) Persuade Sky Sports again that 9 Ball is watchable sport. That's All Folks!!!

Well, 9Ball is very much a watchable sport and it always will be so long as it is played in the fast, fun and exciting way it's meant to be played... tbh, I can't help feel that ITV would be better to broadcast the WPC's than Sky Sports because not everyone has got/can watch Sky Sports at home, whereas most people can watch ITV3 or ITV4 no problems, even if they only got a freeview box.

I think there is still a huge gap in TV sports market for 9Ball Tournaments and I think that it's about time that the UK had a prope televised UK National 9Ball championships, that IS NOT restricted by being a member of a specific tour or organisation. If we can get that sorted and make it a regular event, then we'd have a better chance of meeting the necessary criteria fro bringing the WPC's back to Cardiff when it belongs jm2c fwiw. Willie
