Has anyone had a pool table (full size) installed on a non-ground floor (potentialy 3rd floor if that makes a difference)?

Is there anything I would need to worry about (I'm pretty sure for example a 1pc slate is out for a non-ground floor installation)?

Almost all 9 foot tables have 3 piece slates apart from specialist tournament tables like the SAM that the GB9 Ball Tour uses, and the Diamond Tournament Tables mainly found in America.

You will pay a bit more for a table installation on the third floor, and if there's no lift/elevator available it automatically becomes a two man job.

You need to be absolutely sure that the room in the building is strong enough to take the weight... I know this has been an issue before, certainly with older buildings.

A 9 foot table can weigh as much as 500 kilograms, plus the people playing and that can add up to a mighty strain on old joists.

Potentially would a 6 leg table be better in some respects then, as the weight would be more evenly distributed? Also is that the kind of thing, table installers could test, or would I have to rely on the estate agents do you think (I've asked that question before and they generally seem a bit confused ;-)

I'm really not sure that there are many 6 legged pool tables available, and I think it's just the sheer weight that can be the issue.

Maybe we can encourage a table installer to give a reply... Let me give one a nudge.

Cool tks! There is a lift on the plus side (well if we were to get the flat that is, all hypothetical at this stage)!

If it helps I delivered Pete Williams old 9' table for Nigel Francis and David Walsh to London and that went up 3 flights to a 3rd floor flat,
It was the carrying up that was the hardest bit!
Myself and Nigel just got the last slate up when Walshy turned up to late to supposedly give a hand!

Best to get the advice like Big Dave says from table fitters/manufacturers about the weight issues to be on the safe side though.

Cool, well good to know someone has done it at least, I guess having a lift probably helps ;-) Have e-mailed a few fitters to see what they say too, will post back if I hear anything, just in case anyone is curious!

I've just received this from Ray Ebbs, a table fitter well recommended by Pro9'ers...

"Been working in Birmingham on the I.P.A Tour with Morray Dolan so was not able to get on line in answer to the question in no problem most 3rd floor install are on a concrete floor but if it is on timber the table would need regular relevels as the joist and floor boards settle in to the weight, it also may need a buildings inspector to test the floor for stress of the weight in total not just the table but players as well.
                                 Best Regards
                                        RAY

That's encouraging then... What's your floor made of?

That is a very good question! I would assume concrete, but I had better find out...
