Ramesh Gokhul Winner of T9B Amateur Event 3 yesterday completed the double by Winning Event 4 of the 8 event Series. The last two events have both carried double ranking points and have therefore left Ramesh 'Hustlin' Gokhul 45 points clear at the top of the rankings.
Event 4 continued with the same format as the previous events, each player plays 3 random group stage matches, all players are put into one league table with the top 8, 12 or 16 qualifying for the Knock-Out stages. On this occasion there was to be 8 players advancing. There were three players who completed the league stage undefeated and they were all the C's... Chris Buckmaster, Chris Parker and Courtney Symons. Ever impressive Chris Buckmaster probably had the toughest matches of all players beating three -2 players. Chris began with a 7v5 win over ex UK professional and T9B Amateur series event one finalist Alan Coton. Chris followed this with a 7v4 win against Dean Mazerel and continued his winning streak with a 7v6 result against eventual winner Ramesh Gokhul. Chris Parker a last minute entry produced his best T9B result to date and started as he meant to go on by winning his three league matches against Mikko Tuomi 7-4, Dean Reeve 7-6 and Alex Kontaroudis 7v4. Always consistent Courtney Symons dropped just 9 racks out of 30 beating Wayne Rooke 7-5, Mikko Tuomi 7-3 and a 7-1 win against new player Emir Secener which was the joint biggest win of the League stage. Ramesh won two out of three matches to finished 4th in the league table as the last seeded player after a 7-5 win against Wayne Rooke and a 7-2 win against local player Sammy Lou. The four unseeded qualifiers were Dean Reeve, Mark Parker, Alex Kontaroudis and Dean Mazerel all winning two out of three matches with the biggest win going to Dean Reeve 7-1.
The Quarter Final Draw was completed by Tournament Director Nicole Hansen. In the first Quarter Final it was battle of the Parkers as Chris beat Mark 7-5, The other match in the top half of the Quarter Finals was won by Courtney Symons 7-6 over Dean Reeve. Chris Buckmaster vs Dean Mazerel was the 3rd Quarter Final... Chris ran out a convincing 7-1 winner and the final match in this round was a repeat of the Final from Event 3 Ramesh Gokhul battled to win a close game against Alex Kontaroudis 7-5.
We were in for a treat in the Semi Finals with two close matches between 4 quality players. Courtney Symons used every rack to beat Chris Parker 7-6 and this was Courtney's second hill-hill victory in a row while Ramesh Gokhul got the better of Chris Buckmaster by a 7-5 scoreline.
The Final remained a race to 7 but the winner had to win by two clear racks, the match was very close with players swapping racks throughout. Both players seemed to be hitting the ball well but there had to be a winner and Ramesh held his nerve to lift the trophy winning by 9 racks to 7.
Another great days pool at a T9B event. Well Done to Ramesh on another tournament win, thanks to St Albans for again playing great hosts, to Nicole for running another well organised tournament and to all who attended.
The date for Event 5 has been changed to the 18th February the original date clashed with GB9 event so its now been moved.
