Gokhul The Undefeated (T9B Amateur Event 3)

Total9Ball
Ramesh Gokhul T9B Amateur Series Event 3 Winner

Ramesh Gokhul turned on the style at T9B Amateur Series Event 3 remaining undefeated throughout the event held at St Albans Hurricane Room on Saturday 3rd December 2011.

Each player competed in 3 league stage matches, with the top 8 players based on matches won qualifying for the Quarter Finals.
Ramesh began the day with a 7v5 win against Event 1 Runner Up and former professional Alan Coton, he followed this result with wins against Paul Duke Thomas 7v6 and Tom Staveley 7v2, Ramesh was the only player to win 3 out of 3 matches during the league stages!! Alex Kontaroudis continued his impressive Total9ball form beating the same players Paul Duke Thomas 7v4 and Tom Staveley 7v3. Al John showed what a class player he is scoring wins against David Hood 7v3 and Chris Goh 7v4. Phil Wildman started with a defeat to Chris Goh 7v3 but he turned things around with good wins against Chris Buckmaster 7v3 and Al John 7v5. Other stand out results from the league stage were Chris Parker 7v5 Chris Buckmaster, Jaspal Bamotra 7v6 Alan Coton, David Hood 7v2 Mark Parker and Paul Duke Thomas 7v2 Jaspal Bamotra.

Once the league stage was completed the players surrounded one table for the break dish comp, this is always played in great spirits, fun to be involved in and great entertainment to watch, Players must make a legal break scoring 3 or more points to continue... from there the player must clear the table to win the cash pot. Each entry gets a attempt and it was the 9th player who dished up first that was Paul Duke Thomas, he was looking good to take the pot but one of the last entries Mark Parker also managed to clear the 9 balls therefore the pot was split between them. Well done to both Paul and Mark.

The Quarter Final draw was completed by Jazz Balmotra. Ramesh Gokhul, Alex Kontaroudis, Al John and David Hood were the top 4 players on the league table and were therefore seeded. Phil Wildman, Jaspal Bamotra, Alan Coton and Paul Duke Thomas were the non seeded players. Ramesh 'Ramma Jamma' Gokhul continued his great play running out a 7v4 winner against Paul Duke Thomas a player he had beaten earlier in the day. Alex Kontaroudis looked to be hitting the ball well putting Jazz Balmotra on the wrong side of a 7v4 result. Al John must have been getting sick of the sight of Phil Wildman as they had only just played in league match 3, Wildman turned up the heat winning 7v0. Alan Coton completed the Quarter Final Matches beating David Hood 7v2, David came to the tournament desk after this match and said Alan just doesn’t miss!!!

The Semi Final stage was set Ramesh Gokhul vs Alan Coton and Alex Kontaroudis vs Phil Wildman. Ramesh looked strong and didn’t make any mistakes winning 7v3. In the other Semi Final Wildman was a rack ahead throughout the game but grinded to a halt on 6 racks one short of the winning post. Alex battled on to win 7v6. At 6v5 Phil left himself hampered and couldn’t reach the white, Alex showed great sportsmanship lending his opponent an adjustment for the rest, nice to see such sporting behaviour top bloke.

So the players ranked 1st and 2nd in the league stage made it to the Final (The first time this has happened) It was to be an international final Guyana vs Greece. Ramesh Kept his Cool and maintained his days undefeated streak running out a 7v3 winner. Well done to Ramesh a deserved win, Unlucky to Alex but Alex is quickly becoming the most improved player at T9B and is now rated a big danger to any player in the draw.

Ramesh is now top of the Amateur Series Ranking and is the most successful player at Total9ball competing in 17 events winning 6, he has played 96 matches and won 74 of them giving him a 77% win record and is one of only two Total9ball players to have played over 1000 racks... 1060 to be precise winning 614 which is a 58% rack win rate. All players stats can be found at T9b.co.uk
Thanks to Nicole for running the tournament desk well again, to St Albans Hurricane Room for playing great hosts once again and to all the players.
