Hi,

New to the game, used to play English 8 Ball at a relatively high level.

Just wondering how the best way to practice is etc.....?
What way do 'Catagories' work?

I'm capable of clearing from the break probably 4-5 times out of 10 from the break, on a pro table.

Are there any competitions in Ireland?

Also, what's the best cue to get, there seems to be much more choice of different standard cues in American Pool than English.

Hi Conor. Get in touch with Ronnie Boyle www.irelands9balltour.com
I've played a few times over there and the standard is pretty good.

A 40-50% break and run rate is impressive to say the least - pro speed, I'd say.

In terms of which cue to buy, that really depends on how much you want to spend. Although pricey, Predator or Mezz are the best production cues around, with both offering low deflection shafts.

4 or 5 out of 10???

Are you moving the cue ball after the break shot?

That is a decent standard. Simmo is right stick with your current cue.

Not quiet getting 4 or 5 since that day, but am regularly getting 2-3-4. No not moving it around with my hand at all. Have a chance to buy Predator 4K5 cue second hand for €250. Worth it or not? I'm currently using my brothers cue, which is the reason I'm looking to buy one. Thanks.

Doesn't sound a million miles off price-wise, but very much depends on the condition.

The important thing is to find a cue you like and play well with. Price is secondary.

2/3/4 not playing the ghost (ball in hand) is still pretty impressive.

Cheers Robbed, ye I've had a few frames with the cue and it feels beautiful. Any shot I miss is my own fault and NEVER the cue's, which is great to be honest, as I can work on whatever it is I'm doing wrong

Ok, all you have to do is make sure it's straight and in ok condition. Predator ferrule are prone to cracking, so check that out thoroughly as they're a pain to replace, and expensive too.

Hey Conor, welcome to Pro9.

Whereabouts in Ireland are you located mate?

irish9Ball website, which has plenty of details on any upcoming tournaments in Ireland.

There are plenty of Pro/Am events that are organised by Ronnie Boyle as mentioned above, and also there is the "Pro Season" series & GB9 Qualifyer coming up in the new year @ Hustlers American Pool Hall, Belfast.
