Hi all I am hoping to get a general consensus on what is the appropriate double elimination format.
I say when you have a few players e.g 6 to 10, then the format should be double elimination to the end. Which means an unbeaten player must be beaten twice on the final.
When there are 16 plus then a qualifiers double elimination should apply. Something like the world pool masters 2010 format. Where you have 2 groups, out of each group there are 2 from the winners bracket and 2 from the losers bracket..
who agrees with me?

If you have 2 groups, it will only make a double elim tournament more confusing and time consuming. I would recommend sticking to a single DE bracket if you have 32 players or less and if in the event that you're running short of tournament time on the event day, then either have the 1/2's and the finals on the following day or, just have it a single elimination final jmho fwiw Willie

here in the states, the APA uses a modified double elimination format. each player/team is guaranteed to play at least two rounds. after that, a loss eliminates one from the tourney. a true single elimination format doesn't allow for a loss. the modified double format allows for a losing first round from the jitters, etc. but gives the person/team that round to settle down. . at least that's my take on the situation. =) ----------------- P.
