Well put Alex. The key to the sports success as a whole is going to be making it watchable, yet still 9 ball and not a hybrid of 9 ball and snooker.

9-Ball has to remain different to English 8-Ball and Snooker but be perceived as a difficult game. The problem is that without those generous pockets much of what makes 9-B the game that it is, is lost. A lot of English 8-B players don't realize that the hardest thing about their game is faulty equipment and the luck factor. On many tables the ball won't stay on the rail to the pocket and will turn away. Most of the UK considers English 8-B a better, more skillful game than 9-B but they're wrong in my opinion. A good club player can hang with a top professional in 8-B on their day but the same rarely happens in 9-B as the stronger player dominates with safety more often than not. ... to make it even better for TV, I think there has to be maybe 4" or 4.25" pockets, 4.5" seems to accept too many slop shots

but would that be better for tv? players missing shots because they are trying to pinch a pocket or put ridiculous gear on the ball?

I can't remember exactly what my thoughts were but I'd never played the game when I first started watching the Mosconi and World Champs on Sky but I know I was (*ahem*) hooked, and the pocket generosity has been reduced dramatically since then. What new viewers don't have now is seeing a White or Davis being beaten by guys that apparently can't find the heart of the pocket, they added credibility. If new viewers are comparing American Pool to Snooker now (which of course they will), making the pots tougher will just increase the amount of negative shots because they will become the right shot. I don't think Willie Mosconi would want his name associated with an annual dump shot contest. I'll reiterate, it's just my opinion as a fan and I know I'm in a minority. Yes Ben! Make them bigger i say
