Then if you rack each others you get the players puttin the 2 ball in the worst spot wherever that may be. Only 1 solution.

Not true that all players who dont want 2 at back cheat...I rack them entirely at random I dont even look at the balls to see where they are going. I know what works and what doesn't but I still rack fairly and expect opponent to be courteous enough to do the same.
That said, I thought the official GB9 rule was to rack each others anyway?

Interesting that the RunOut Media DVD product advertised on the front page actively promotes the use of pattern racking, unless I'm reading it wrong??? The DVD doesn't promote pattern racking. It merely gives the viewer the understanding of how the balls react after the break, the associated trajectories, common layouts, etc. Whether the player uses the information for person gain, or to protect themselves from a competitor who pattern racks, the DVD leaves the viewer to decide. In addition, it's important to understand that not all tournaments have rules against pattern racking. As such, if it's allowed, then a player should use their knowledge to their advantage. The subject is somewhat controversial, but the fundamental understanding of the concept is important information that every advanced player should know. The DVD addresses this. Hope that helps. ----------------- Authorised Pro9 forum advertiser √

With the 2 at the back the chance of perfecting a break, ie breaking from the exact spot with the exact power hitting the exact contact point is praticlly impossible
2 at the back is the future, seems to be there more sneaky players around than I once thought. I had to call a ref in my match agsinst 1 site used not mentioning no names as don't want to embarrass him (lee speight) for pattern racking.

Can't you just check the rack before breaking? Don't understand how you can get loose racks if using a magic rack anyway? I'd love it if it was magic rack break from centre spot of headstring only. And 1 racked high. That is a tough break and a tough game...

2 at back, rack your own. people still dont rack the balls right even with a tapping mat, not always on purpose nbut just cos they not paying attention whilst racking..
so long as i can touch the rack after my opponent has attempted to rack the balls, no issues.
it kinda says it all that the players prefer to rack their own even in the finals - thats no disrespect to any officials - its just that the top players appreciate how important it is to get it right, it can basically be the difference between winning and losing....
I have played plenty of people on tour who just take the break for granted when racking the balls - assuming that the magic rack will make them tight, then wonder why they are not making 3 points?
anyway - 2 ball at back, rack your own.

Computer generated patterns are the future...make it random then no arguments at all. A new excuse for the losers "I lost because the Computer gave me a bad pattern"

Yeh 2 at the back and rack your own. Other than that just keep an eye on you're opponent to make sure he's not putting the rest of the balls in the same place. If you think he is then say something to him, simple [ This message was edited by: ashawthing on 2011-11-23 11:25 ]

I still think the idea that the player who lost last game should referee the next match holds some merit then its the same for both players!

I think that if you want to put an end to any possible advantage then perhaps we should all pattern rack the same. Would it be possible to come up with an agreed rack that works? evan as simple as numbers across top > bottom: -----1 ----2-3 ---4-9-5 ----6-7 -----8 or clockwise around the rack: -----1 ----8-2 ---7-9-3 ----6-4 -----5 I'm sure there's a good reason why these are not good but because, personally, I have no interest in pattern racking as, imho, it is cheating whatever you call it, I don't know if these would be considered 'defensive' or 'offensive' racks etc. I would suggest that an overtly defensive rack would not be an option, as it would impact the time matches take to play.
