Have any of you guys thought of quitting? I have recently returned to the game after a couple of years absence and after a really poor practice session tonight it has crossed my mind to just pack it in. Maybe i just need some coaching? Has this ever happened to anyone or is it just me?

lots of times, then I remember I'm 'married with children' and recall why I want to get out of the house and play pool whenever I can !!!!!

I got tanked by Craig Hirst at Solihull Riley's in May last year and didn't pick my cue up for 3 months after it. i played awful and couldn't string 3 pots together. I'm well over it it now and just think of it as part of the learning curve. I promised myself to get to my local Riley's at least once a week this year and also I'm considering asking Mick Hill for some coaching sessions even though he coaches 8 ball in Bilston (I want to ask him if he'd do a 9 ball session but would go with an 8 ball lesson if I thought he could he teach me a few things that I could integrate into my American pool game).
I think if you still enjoy pool then get some coaching. Theres been some class players who have sung the praises of coaches like Alan Bell & Imrin Majid in these forums.

Yes - after losing to Nicky Hayes. Then I got a grip of myself and decided a better course of action is to stop giving starts to people who don't need one :)

Yes, just this week and I'll probably go through with it. I realised that when the frustration of playing bad outweighs the enjoyment of playing well then its no longer a hobby its more of a burden and you're playing more to try and avoid disappointment than just to enjoy playing.

Just once. After I was 4-0 up on Karl Read and lost 7-4 in a BWPPA event 3 years ago. Had 2 weeks off, then when I got back in the club I just loved playing, and I think I needed that to teach me some things about my mental strength

I usually play twice a week. I'm starting to think that i've hit a plateau with my game and need a helping hand to get onto the next stage.

This comment I completely understand! While I love the game it's certainly not an easy one to maintain good form in! I wouldn't say that I've quit pool but I've been having a long time away from it with the occasional weekend small flyer and even that hasn't worked. I'd say that if you're going to have a break you need to not play anything as you'll only get mauled if you play competitions with any standard after not practicing...

come on guys this is all abit doom and gloom... this game is mostly a mental game so for me its all about positive thinking. Get yourself in a GB9 or T9B event win a few games and enjoy that winning buzz this will elimate all of these thoughts then who knows how good you can get.

Who are you billiard bloke? Can't remember drubbing someone 7-0. Was it at the GB9 qualifying? Sorry to hear you gave up after losing to me. I have taken a few notable scalps in my time but am currently in tournament retirement myself.
