Hi Alan - I play too slow, I know I play too slow, all my friends comment on it, I know it's boring for them to have to play me, but I worry that if I play faster, I'm not trying my best. Do you know any tricks to get me to speed up my game?

Hi Alan,

my problem seems to be rushing shots and playing far too fast. The weird thing is when I play, 90% of the difficult shots I try I will make, but only about 50% of the simple shots that I should be potting every time will drop. Any ideas?

Hi Alan
Del Sim here, I had a session with you when I was chopping 8 balls about 3/4 years ago at Bracknell Rileys. If you're around in Leeds area anytime soon I'd be keen to hear some advice in assisting with mental preparation before a match. Seem to lose my head halfway through and chop balls I havent missed since riggers had hair.

Hi CT
many people who i have coached have been fairly slow players the reason being that they like too select the right shot ,so would suggest you only take your time for that simple reason, the trick to get a little quicker is to have more selection of shots and certainly dont worry about what over people think just concentrate on your own game. keep in touch
:-D

Hi Martin
i think you need too develop a pre shot routine which i call an act, this would give you a little more pace control around the table ,hopefully this will give you more success on your routne shots.

Hello del
im not near leeds, but if you round a couple lads up will come to you in the near future.
About the preperation i would suggest the less you think about the match coming up the better, easier said than done.

What's your advice for people who have trouble potting long, dead straight shots, perhaps playing off the rail - I've always been surprised how many people say they have trouble with this?

Hi my name is Mario and I advice you to practice long straiht pots
One good practice for this is lay all balls in in a line in the middle of the table and than place the withe on the second diamond straight behind the first ball near the cushen and pott it with a top spin in the corner pocket,
Target is to pott the ball and follow the white to the corner pocket.
Do this with all 15 ball lined up in the centre of the table after this move all 15 balls one diamond forward but the White ball stays on the second diamond so you increase the distance from object ball and cue ball do this and you will improve your potting with straight balls it helped me imense and I found out this exercise improves your confident when you have some straight shots during a match.

I hope this will help you and just to mention it works with backspin too

Regards Mario

Hi Alan,I once missed a ball in 1995 but it's still grating on me,how can I deal with this miss,it's starting to affect my potting now, balls are starting to just catch the knuckles instead of hitting the centre of the bag,it's painful
