2023 SPANISH OPEN | 64 LEFT STANDING IN LUGO

Only 64 players remain at the inaugural Spanish Open Pool Championship Pazo de Feiras e Congresos de Lugo, Spain in partnership with The Asociación Gallega de Billar Pool (AGP), live on DAZN in Spain, the USA, Italy, and Brazil, Viaplay in Scandinavia, the Baltics and Poland as well as live on Sky Sports from Saturday and Sunday.

Francisco Sanchez Ruiz had plenty of time to welcome the juniors for the first-ever FSR Junior Open with the current world number one taking care of business early on to reach the single elimination stage beating Hunter Lombardo 9-2 whilst compatriot and World Cup of Pool partner David Alcaide had a similar day having beaten Vietnam's Duong Quoc Hoang 9-5.

For two of the other big home favourites Jonas Souto Comino and Jose Alberto Delgado, both came up short missing out on the next stage. Justin Sajich upsetting the apple cart against Souto Comino 9-2 whilst Delgado lost out to Dimitri Jungo 9-3.

UK Open finalist Joshua Filler had to come through the losers side after a crushing 9-1 loss to Johann Chua in Winners Qualification.

Filler came back out against Sullivan Clark where it was the latter who did the early running only for the Killer to remain in the tournament with a fine second half of the match to overcome the New Zealander. A match up with Aloysius Yapp of Singapore is next for the German.

Two-time Mosconi Cup MVP Jayson Shaw has gone somewhat under the radar this week and he continued on his way without defeat so far after overcoming Daniele Corrieri 9-4 and current World Pool Masters holder Ko Pin Yi similarly who got the better of Tobias Bongers only dropping one rack in the process.

Fedor Gorst always carries a threat and he and Abin Ouschan both also came through without hassle. Tyler Styer will be hoping to boost his Mosconi Cup hopes this week and a hill hill win over Ko Ping Chung will certainly help that cause whilst Ko made it through to the Last 64 with victory over Spain's Francisco Doval Iglesias. James Aranas meanwhile joined Chua in the next stage despite being without all his luggage including cues.

World Snooker Tour top 16 player Gary Wilson continued an amazing journey in 9-ball by defeating WNT No. 4 Mario He to reach the Last 64 for a second straight tournament with the Tyneside Terror taking it in a hill-hill finish.

He meanwhile fought through Losers Qualification against roommate Roman Hybler in a hill hill finish to make sure it wasn't an early bath for the two-time World Cup of Pool winner with a rematch with Wilson set up in the next stage.
