World class Chinakhov

One of the hot favourites to win the event in men division was world class player Ruslan Chinakhov (RUS), but he had some strong players like Maksim Dudanets (RUS) and Denis Grabe (EST) to match his skills. However, Ruslan did his job and did it well when he won quite one-sided final against Dudanets by a score 7:3 and had no trouble in his semi-final against Andrey Solodski (RUS) which he won 7:2. On the contrary to Chinakhov, Dudanets had to earn his place in the final as he got a tough hill-hill win over Grabe.

Gurova to deny Mitrofanova

After her success on the first stage Olga Mitrofanova (RUS) was surely one of the players who many were betting on. Nevertheless, she found her match when she and Viktoria Gurova (RUS) offered the spectators a real thriller in the final which went to a hill-hill and Gurova draw the longest straw. Therefore, Gurova denied Mitrofanova of her perfect record and winning back to back. Both players got comfortable wins in their semi-finals as Mitrofanova reached the final with a 6:2 win over Milena Murga (BLR) and Gurova had some grinding (6:4) against Dina Fatyhova (RUS).

An international final in Oldboys

The Oldboys final was the only final that had international colours as a veteran of the event Genadijs Kaminskis from Latvia needed to overcome Aleksandr Grudinkin from Russia. Both players showed good skills in the final, but Grudinkin took the gold 6:4. On his way to the final Grudinkin took down another Latvian, Aleksandrs Kućmins, by the same score and Kaminskis won 6:3 over last stage semi-finalist Leonid Zhavartcov (RUS).

Impressive U15

The U15 offered many very good quality matches. The final saw two young guns from Russia, Aleksandr Chernyshov and Nikita Strunov, to play for the brightest medal. Although Strunov showed some good playing throughout the event Chernyshov did not fall behind and got a well-deserved gold medal by a final score 4:1. Strunov had to overcome Anasatsiya Mazurova (RUS) 4:0 and Chernyshov secured his place in the final by a score 4:2 over Kristina Nikolaeva (RUS)

Perfect event in St. Petersburg

The organisers of the event were thrilled how good was the event in St. Petersburg. “This event shows that the interest for the Mezz Cues Baltic Pool League is growing. St. Petersburg is very attractive tourism city, but here is a top-class pool hall PLAYPOOL doing great job in popularizing our beloved sport and the staff here made a perfect event. Additionally, we got many top-class players in the brackets and the most important for us is to see two girls in the semi-finals of U15. This shows us that the U15 league is a really needed league in the overall development of pool in our region and surely, soon we will see another Chinakhov, Dudanets, Polovinchuk or Fefilova coming from our league. We really hope that to already existing youth leagues there will be many other youth leagues all over the Europe.”

Another successful event

The second stage of the Mezz Cues Baltic Pool League 2019 saw 127 players battling it out for the medals. Nice to see that another new country is in the list of participants and that is South-Korea. This time Belarus, Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Russia and South-Korea were represented.

The organisers thank all the athletes, volunteers, fans and all other people and companies that were part of another enjoyable event. Big gratitude goes out to all the sponsors – Mezz Cues, Aramith, Iwan Simonis, Kamui, Aveiras, Turtle Rack Sheet, Arena Billiards Club, Bams Pool House, Playpool Billiards Club, Hill-Hill Pool Club.
