Make a friend for life by asking your club mates if they would like you to take a shaft along for them - this seems to happen quite a lot!

Hi Dave
I have an Ultra Skin soft currently installed which is a 9 layered tip. I want to have it trimmed to its last 3-4 layers (and also have it cut so it's flush to my ferrule - the installation was poor but I want to give the tip a chance). Could you pm me an approx price for this service please?

I'd have to see it to give an accurate quote, but it will most likely be either £5 or £10 depending on the amount of work needed... But I've just checked on Tom Hay's website and watched a few videos on some Youtube channels and there seems there's nothing special needed to fit these tips apart from the usual precautions needed for soft layered tips, so bring it along and we'll get it looking like new.

Finished fitting tips at 10.30pm last night... Didn't manage to get all of them done, so today's workload starts with four shafts to do.

Actually fitted a tip to a 20 inch Mezz jump cue shaft... I was surprised my lathe could accommodate it, as I specifically laid out the components to optimise American Pool Cue shafts. It won't do Snooker cues or one piece cues butt I'm fine with that. . It also isn't suitably set up for shaft cleaning, but I've never been interested in that anyway. You've got to do what you love and I love doing tips.

Come along to The Park Inn at Telford if your local and bring your shafts... DAY 2 starts now!

A quieter day for tips today, which let me chat with some customers and sell some of the 10-Ball Break and Dish raffle tickets.

Well... Tipping even on the last day - did a Tiger Shark tip for the first time... A totally weird tip, not like anything Tiger have ever made before and a complete pig to fit - and it doesn't look particularly pretty once it's fitted either with a sort of flaky tobacco leaf type of texture, but apparently they play well, so I guess that's what matters.

I had one customer who had a tip come loose at this event - I completely replaced the tip with a brand new G2 Soft (which incidentally cut really easily like warm butter and the leather peels off under the razor blade in long flowing curls) and made sure it wouldn't pull off before giving it back to him.

Craig Osborne was so effusive in his praise for my tipping work, saying he wished he'd come to me earlier, that someone walking past with no intention of even talking to me turned around and booked a tipping job right there and then, so thanks for the business referral Ozzie!

:D

A nice quiet day on the Sunday, just a few tips, a couple of shop sales, some people collecting work done on the lathe and a fair bit of chin-wagging with the players about their results, who won cash, who played well, who got "bagelled" and such.

Time to do some admin, and cash up - not a bad weekend for business, and then pack and make the late night drive home to Portsmouth - a journey that is supposed to take three hours according to the satnav, but invariably takes 6 due to terrible traffic etc. Fingers crossed.
