Hi guys I was wondering if there is anyone out there who can help me, you see my local pool hall is going down the tubes I went on sunday and played a few games but the tables are getting worse pockets are coming appart from the table, the slate is visible through the cloth and to top it all 90% of the rails are dead.

So I was wondering what could I say to the manager without being rude that might help get the tables back in order & playable again because I am sick of playing on unlevel tables.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd suggest being VERY tactful, whatever you decide!

I agree something polite 'Like, I'm new to this game and I was wondering about these tables you've got....some of them have carpet burns on them...has Jodie Marsh been in recently?. Also did some of these tables used to be pinball machines? Because the balls keep rolling down one end and they bump off the cushions at random angles.

If he doesn't react, then suggest that you were going to get a load of mates down but that they've said that 'the tables weren't good enough'. Then say 'I was wanting to give my mates a date for when you'll be sorting out the tables....what shall I tell them?'

Good Luck ;-)

Tell Him next time you play that you are refusing to pay full whack per hour what these tables are worth if they are £5ph then only pay £1ph then join another club. Or report the tables to the head office

I have been in this situation before and I can wholeheartedly say it's a horrible situation to be in, esp when you worked in the club that was like that.

there's a few things I would need to know though before I can help you.

1, what is the name of the club, is it a Rileys, Suzy Q's, Hustlers, or whatever?

2, who is the proprieter of the room?

if you can find this info out, then I can help you better from there as I have been in this situation and from what you describe, the owner/Manager is an A-hole and you should go to another room, even if it means having to travel 10 miles or so to play, I have to travel 15 miles to Club 9 by getting the train because the room I used to work at, is a certified and total dive, where you wipe your feet on the way out, that is how bad it got before I left.

Now I play at Club 9 and it is a room that you would be licking your chops to play in :)

Anyways, let me know please post or PM me the details and I'll be able to advise you better from there :)

Take care and good luck :)

Willie

I received a reply from the head office after sending an email compalining about my local halls condition and this is what they had to say:

Dear Mr. Shevlin

Thank you very much for your e-mail and I was concerned to read what
you had to say.

May I immediately assure you that we are always pleased to hear from
our members, and do take all their comments very seriously indeed.

I shall today be forwarding a copy of your e-mail to Mr. Ken Ronald,
the Regional Manager with responsibility for this club, with the request
that he looks into the matter.

In the meantime, may I thank you for taking the time and trouble to
contact us.

Julie Green
Operations Administrator
Rileys Ltd

So it seems that rileys actually DO listen to their customers.

The best thing that I can suggest is to keep an open mind on this, but I do feel that they are gonna sort it out becausethey will not want their really good reputation marked in any way because of a sloppy manager in 1 club :), Rileys do havesome great clubs and it is a shame that there are 1 or 2 clubs that have a manager with less brains than a drunken monkey, but no-one is perfect :)

Again, I wish you the best of luck and keep us posted on what develops :)

Take care buddy :)

I've seen it all at Rileys...

I once saw a cleaner standing on the table hoovering the cloth with a vaccum cleaner!

According to rileys myth they would have you believe that they should use Hoovers to clean the pool tables with obviously not standing on the tables though... :) Only Earl can get away with that....

In my opinion it actually makes the tables worse by cleaning them this way as it actually slurps up the dust underneath the cloth back through it and into it which in turn causes a the devils playground of a lot of bad contacts/kicks on the balls afterwards.

Scorpion I too had a few choice words about my local Rileys clubs and complained last Tuesday via their web form.

I was surprised to see that they actually replied to you and i thought to myself, huh? where's my reply and then as if by co-incidence i had an exact same email waiting in my inbox.

Also had an email from the Regional Mgr yesterday saying they will be looking into my issues raised.

I won't hold my breath though.

the_mAn I just got a reply from my regional manager but the drunken donkey (sorry wizard) said that I was thinking of the snooker tables and NOT! the pool tables I mean does he think i'm stupid, so I wrote a reply telling him to check the complaint again and to notice that it was in fact the pool tables I was talking about.

Whether I get another reply I don't know but here's hoping.

The other bad reason for using a hoover on a pool or snooker table is that the suction can actually stretch the cloth causing an awful playing surface.

That's why I have always told people to never vacum a table, just brush it, that is what I do :)

No worries about the terminology borrowing, it's there for everyone to use as they please :), But I'm not suprised at the response from the area manager.

The only thing that I can suggest then is that you get a sheet of paper and when you're at the pool hall and get people' signatures for all those who want the tables to be revamped, after all, they cannot ignore public demand because if they ignore their customers, they lose trade and money and they will hate that thought most :)

People power has gotta be used in this effort, but if that fails, then may I suggest that you move to Bournemouth, there is a really really good Rileys club there, The manager of there is Eddie, she's a really nice person to talk to and very appoachable, but tshe is also for the players and she keeps that room in top condition :)

Good luck in this no matter what buddy :)

Take care everyone :)

Willie

I jsut got a second reply from mr ronald and hes said that along with the snooker tables being re-rubbered in time for the snooker world championships the pool tables will also be included, so I think it is safe to say its a right result people power actually works.

Sounds like something positive could be happening there - I'll have to email them asking Riley to open a club near me too!
